This disc is intended to introduce a collection of keyboard instruments in Edinburgh, Scotland, but actually it accomplishes much more. The instruments featured here were built all over Europe, with the majority from the British Isles or France. They date from between 1586 and 1810, with the first example being an Italian virginal and the final one a fortepiano. Along the way come harpsichords of various kinds, a clavichord, and a small organ. Brief but relevant and engaging histories are given for each instrument.

Teitur Lassen is a singer/songwriter from the Faroe Islands who resides in the U.K. Teitur (pronounced "TYE-toor") originally left the Faroe Islands for Copenhagen when he was 17 after fronting a pop/rock band. He set upon writing music full-time and eventually caught the attention of former BMI executive Christian Ulf-Hansen, who became his manager. Universal released his first album, Poetry & Aeroplanes, in 2003, while Teitur found himself opening for Suzanne Vega, Glen Phillips, Aimee Mann, and John Mayer as well as playing over 300 shows through the following year.

Recorded in 1957, Ella & Louis Again re-teams Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong after the success of their first album and a popular series of concerts at the Hollywood Bowl the previous year. Stylistically, Fitzgerald and Armstrong had very different histories; he started out in Dixieland before branching out into classic jazz and swing, whereas Fitzgerald started out as a swing-oriented big-band vocalist before becoming an expert bebopper…
