B.B. & The Blues Shacks are one of Europe's leading blues & roots bands and are well-known for their original blend of swinging and grooving blues, deeply rooted in 1940s and `50s jump blues. They recorded their new album, "London Days", in London which was recorded `live' in the studio with almost no overdubs. With the release of "London Days" these guys are raising the bar in terms of contemporary soul/blues to new heights!
Fred James & Mary-Ann Brandon are the real deal. If you like southern roots Americana and blue eyed soul music, you’ll love the sound these two journeyman performers conjure up. Their new CD release on SPV Records showcases their exceptional song-writing and musicianship. Their harmony blend is all their own but harkens back to the classic duet sounds of Delaney & Bonnie, Billy Vera & Judy Clay and Bonnie Raitt & Delbert McClinton. It’s a sound that is timeless. This record has wound up being a loose chronicle of their life together. It's a love story with all its twists and turns. Their life together has not always been easy. They have lived, loved, fought and played with passion. For this album they went back to record some of the music from the early days and dug into their country and R&B roots to bring you a southern stew pot of blue eyed soul. This is, in fact, a record that has been a quarter of a century in the making.
Awesome debut studio disc by this excellent blues/rock axeslinger from Italy featuring 11 tracks of first-rate, authentic, vintage, world-class, blues-based retro-70's, heavy guitar rock that kicks ass with style, class and righteous, old-school, soul-powered, sonic six string authority. It seems incredible that a singer of Heldentenor quality like Vickers could sing so stylishly in Handel, with elaborate divisions perfectly executed. Not only that, his portrayal of Samson is deeply moving, thanks to vocal acting over as wide tonal and dynamic range.
Columbine marks the full-length album debut by Aura Dione, a Danish singer/songwriter with a pop style and English-language lyrics. Originally released in Denmark in 2008, the album was repackaged for German release in 2009. Highlights include the hit singles "Something from Nothing," "Song for Sophie," and "I Will Love You Monday." The German edition features a remix of the latter song retitled "I Will Love You Monday (365)."
Born in Brooklyn, raised in Switzerland, resident of Toronto, and recording in Memphis, singer Shakura S'Aida turns in her second solo album, Brown Sugar, for the German Ruf Records label. On her first CD, UMI's Blueprint, she sang blues cover songs from the 1940s and ‘50s, but here she and her guitarist, Donna Grantis, have penned nine of the 11 songs themselves. They have done so in some familiar blues styles, starting with the opening trio of 12-bar blues tunes, "Mr. Right," "Walk Out That Door," and "Gonna Tell My Baby," then going on to less hardcore variations such as the blues-rock found on "(Did It)" Break Your Heart" and the bluesy piano ballad "Angel on High."
Impressive debut recording. Meena hails from Austria. She sings without any accent. She's got plenty of feeling in her singing, she can wail, she can shout and whisper. Meena's onstage power and authentic voice have aroused interest in blues aficionados around the globe. Her approach to music is something special, powered by her desire to deliver her art. Excellent. The recordings were supervised by Jim Gaines in Memphis. Special guests: Joanne Shaw Taylor, Eric Sardinas, Erja Lyytinen, Coco Montoya, etc. Producer legend Jim Gaines (Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Lee Hooker, Santana,…) once praised Meena Cryle as „one of the best singers I`ve worked with in 20 years. She is what we call in the business an `old soul`. She`s got the voice and she`s got the passion…“
France-based act Myster Mobius have produced a stunning album with this initial effort. At least for those with an interest in fairly complex and challenging instrumental art rock. Coming across as a band situated in between Ozric Tentacles and Spaced Out as far as main musical expression goes, with liberal amounts of post rock and post metal tossed into the proceedings, the nine tracks that make up this disc are a joy to experience. Creative, innovative and dynamic compositions are served up, featuring freely flowing constructions constantly evolving and shifting in pace and intensity but also staying put repeating dominant musical motifs time and again…
