Classical / Baroque / Period Instruments / Chamber Music / Viola da gamba

These albums were recorded in 1976 and 1992 (the latter right after the tremendous success of the movie “Tous les Matins du Monde”. Nevertheless, they are astonishingly consistent in their interpretative flair and enable us to discover 10 of the 67 “Concerts” composed by Mr. de Sainte Colombe. Each ‘Concert’ consists in an average of 4 pieces and last around 10 minutes. The most famous is the Concert: ‘Le Tombeau des Regrets’ and especially ‘Les Pleurs’ (The Tears), a masterpiece of emotion in which every note is essential. Jordi Savall plays alongside with Wieland Kuijken, another great name of Baroque music and Viola.

French saxophonist Sophie Alour's Opus 3 is not only her third album as a leader, it is also her first in a trio setting. The recipient of the French Django D'or award, Alour departs from the electric intensity of her previous release, Uncaged (Nocturne, 2007), to explore her voice as an instrumentalist. The 11 originals are tone poems bearing heavy western classical influences, with occasional peppering of other styles that showcase the leader on both tenor and soprano saxophones.

Thrash / Speed Metal

An integral part of the early 1980s thrash metal movement, New Jersey quartet Overkill were formed in 1980 by vocalist Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth and guitarist Bobby Gustafson, and also included bassist D.D. Verni and drummer Rat Skates (later replaced by Sid Falck). The band garnered a reputation for brutal, pounding speed and technique, but lacked the musical diversity to compete with heavy hitters like Metallica; still, Overkill built up a strong following in the metal underground with albums like 1985's Taking Over and 1988's Under the Influence…

Philippe Sarde is one of the greatest composers of film music ever. Even if his work has been mainly concentrated on French and European films, his reputation has spread around the world. With more than 350 soundtracks in 50 years, no one could escape his compositions. He has collaborated with the greatest French and European directors: Claude Sautet, Roger Vadim, Costa-Gavras, Marco Ferreri, Roman Polanski, Jean-Jacques Annaud, the list is endless. And to dress his music, he systematically surrounded himself with the greatest. In the course of the titles, we meet the London Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of Paris, violinists Stéphane Grappelli or Ivry Gitlis, clarinetist and arranger Hubert Rostaing, saxophone virtuosos Stan Getz or Wayne Shorter and other jazz legends such as Chet Baker, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Billy Cobham, Kenny Clarke… The music selection has been supervised by PHILIPPE SARDE himself. The boxset includes a 36-page booklet with an original portrait (in French and English) written by the world specialist of Film Soundtracks STÉPHANE LEROUGE, and rare or unpublished photos, and a dedication by the star of the Big Screen ALAIN DELON. “Philippe Sarde, even before composition, is first of all Imagination.” Declared Georges Lautner. A point of view confirmed by this imposing anthology, indispensable, which draws the contours of a contemporary but already classic work.

With our release of well-received titles by Blood, Sweat & Tears and Tower of Power, we at Real Gone have become something of a home for the great horn bands of the late '60s and early 70s, and with our reissue of The Ides of March's classic Vehicle album on the 50th anniversary of the band s founding, we are bringing another one into the fold. The Ides began in a basement in the Chicago suburb of Berwyn on October 16th, 1964, and have stayed together ever since; only the Rolling Stones really rival them for longevity. And this album, Vehicle, was their commercial high-water mark; its title track went to #2 and the album to #55 on the 1970 charts. It's a happy collision (no pun intended) of the band s garage-y British pop influences and the more progressive sounds of Chicago and BS&T that were sweeping through FM radio at the time; our Expanded Edition features four single bonus tracks and notes by Richie Unterberger featuring quotes from the band's Jim Peterik and Larry Millas. Highly recommended!

Still riding the success of his triumphant concert at the 1956 Newport Jazz Festival, Duke Ellington in 1958 decided to reduce his touring orchestra to a nonet dubbed "the Spacemen" in 1958, and recorded this lone project with them for the Columbia label. Perhaps inspired by the first orbiting satellites, Ellington is not taking cues from George Russell or Sun Ra, whose extraterrestrial inspirations led them down even more progressive paths.

Singer-guitarist and leader of the Danish band DAD, Jesper Binzer has released with his band a number of albums, some of which ("No Fuel Left For The Pilgrims" and "Riskin 'It All" in mind) have become the classic of hard rock. More than thirty years after the beginnings of the training, and thanks to the "creative" break (because?) Taken by DAD, the man with the always long hair (reference to the song "I Will not Cut My Hair" and also the title of his autobiography), takes the opportunity to release his first solo album entitled "Dying Is Easy" and comes out without drums or trumpets at Warner Music Denmark.
