Like my favorite Jazz albums, the “Grunge” albums of the early 1990’s spoke to me because they offered what I perceived to be a genuine artistic vision.

Formed in 2012 by sax innovator Pete Wareham and fronted by vocalist Kush Gaya, Melt Yourself Down are set to release their most vital music yet. Working with production legends Youth and Ben Hillier, the band have reimagined themselves and created a bruising re-up of their signature sound with added synths, anthems and epic joyrides for their third studio album, 100% YES, out on 27th March next year

Between October 1969 and May 1972—a span of just over two and a half years—Black Sabbath recorded four albums, which both individually and collectively provided the cornerstones, foundations, and building blocks of heavy metal. That the band managed such studio productivity is, in and of itself, a miracle, given both their touring regimen and their prodigious drug intake.

After seemingly going dark, Brighton’s Dark Horses awaken from their slumber to ride again with their first new music since the 2017 single “XIII”.

The brand-new album by David Gilmour, Luck and Strange was recorded over five months in Brighton and London and is Gilmour’s first album of new material in nine years. The record was produced by David and Charlie Andrew, best known for his work with ALT-J and Marika Hackman, with lyrics mostly written by Polly Samson, Gilmour’s co-writer for the past thirty years. The album features eight new tracks along with a beautiful reworking of The Montgolfier Brothers’ ‘Between Two Points’, which sees Romany Gilmour, who performs backing vocals across the album, on vocals and harp. Musicians contributing to the record include Guy Pratt and Tom Herbert on bass, Adam Betts, Steve Gadd and Steve DiStanislao on drums, Rob Gentry and Roger Eno on keyboards and the string and choral arrangements are by Will Gardner.

Assumably the youngest professional big band on the Dutch block these days! Composer and conductor Chris Muller is guiding Jazz Gen Next into a world of orchestral jazz, inspired by the likes of Christian McBride and Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band. ‘Turning Thoughts’ is their dazzling debut album with 8 brand new compositions by Chris Muller and arrangements by him of Bronislaw Kaper’s ‘Invitation’ and Wayne Shorter’s ‘Yes or No’. Featuring guest a.o. are Nicola Missing on vocals and Jasper Blom on tenor saxophone.
