This album of piano trios represents one hundred years of Bulgaria’s diverse and colorful history, enchanting audiences with haunting melodies, joyous rhythms, and the deeply rooted sentiments of a proud people.

It was with a generous grant and time provided by the pandemic that vocalist/composer Luciana Souza was able to sit down and compose a new longform piece without distraction. Along with her trio of guitarist Chico Pinheiro and bassist Scott Colley, Souza debuts her wonderful new composition, Twenty-Four Short Musical Episodes (with first lines from poems by Emily Dickinson).

That Aaron Copland's ballet " Hear Ye! Hear Ye!"(1934), could be due to the rather dry subject: a trial for murder in a nightclub. "Appalachian Spring" with its scenes from rural Pennsylvania is more tranquil. His music, which programmatically evokes a new simplicity, has made this ballet a success.

"Episodes of Grace," which came together out of the label's pandemic lockdown sessions in 2020, is an engaging and enjoyable album featuring the collective efforts of five capable composer bandleader virtuosos.
