Deluxe three disc (two CDs + NTSC/Region 0 DVD)edition which includes a newly-compiled work by Mike Oldfield himself - The 1984 Suite, which gathers together tracks from Discovery and The Killing Fields together with rarities and a newly-voiced version of 'Poison Arrows', called 'Zombies (Halloween Special).' This 38-minute suite takes up the second CD of this deluxe edition and is presented in stereo and 5.1 on the DVD, alongside three in-era promos. Discovery was Mike Oldfield's ninth studio album. Originally released in June 1984, the UK Top 20 album contains two songs which Oldfield would later include on Two Sides his career best of - 'The Lake', an expansive instrumental reflection on Lake Geneva and 'To France', a classic folk-pop ballad featuring Maggie Reilly. As with all of Oldfield's critically acclaimed re-release program, the notes include a new interview with Mike.

Structures from Silence‘s breathing, suspended embrace of atmospheres and serene melodies instantly struck a chord with listeners in 1984; the album continues to reiterate its timeless resonations with new listeners today. On this landmark recording of gentle proportions, the three long-form tracks were the birth of something new: an original and pure statement striking a balance between diaphanous and understated, deep and reflective. The listening experience evokes a sense of silence within the music as well as the space between the chords. It expresses the breath of life and offers a meditation on delicate strands of subtle awareness.

XTC’s 1984 album The Big Express will be reissued as a CD+blu-ray edition with new Dolby Atmos, 5.1 and stereo mixes by Steven Wilson. This is the seventh in the ongoing series of expanded XTC reissues and as with the others it includes a wealth of audio including four album remixes by Wilson (Atmos, 5.1, stereo and instrumental), the whole album in demo form, plus extra demos and bonus tracks.

b. Eddy Conrad, 1959, Gary, Indiana, USA. Conrad grew up in Indiana obsessed by the sound of Isaac Hayes’ ‘Theme From Shaft’. The first record he ever purchased, Conrad would spend his pocket money continually attending reruns of the film at local cinemas. ‘As a kid you always have heroes but with John Shaft [the film’s protagonist] it was serious. He had that certain macho feeling that every kid wishes he had too.’ In 1985 he fulfilled a long-held ambition by re-recording the track, which became a number 13 UK chart hit. It might well have charted higher had another version of ‘Theme From Shaft’ by Van Twist not been released at the same time. Afterwards, however, Conrad and his band disappeared from view completely.

The music on this album, specially created for the television series, is the result of the combined talents of two exceptional but very different musicians: Jon Lord, rock luminary of "Deep Purple" and "Whitesnake". fame, and Alfred Ralston, veteran of music hall and stage and film musicals with hits like "Oh! What A Lovely War" to his credit. Both slightly unexpected artists to be writing the score for a country idyll. But it was the challenge of producing music outside their usual spheres that has given the series music which is so fresh and strong. There was one crucial and tricky object from the start: to create music that was sensitive and lovely enough to express the beauty of the Warwickshire countryside yet robust enough to rise to the heights of stormy weather, emotional crises and the tremendously expansive and dramatic poetry in the "Diary". The original surprise idea of working with Jon came from series producer Patrick Gamble who knew Jon had written a theme of his own after reading the Diary.

The Effigies were a 1980s-era Chicago punk band whose music had a lasting effect on many fans including one Steve Albini. They made many albums and EPs but their most lauded work was 1984's For Ever Grounded which now comes back out for its 40th anniversary complete with brand new 2024 mixes.
