The perfect celebration of the Glam Rock and Pop period of the early 1970s. Featuring a value-packed 34 tracks, it’s time to dust off those platform heels, find those patched jeans, and paint the stars on your face.Side One kicks off in suitably royal style with Queen’s era-defining ‘Killer Queen’ into Sweet’s #1 ‘Blockbuster’, T. Rex with ‘20th Century Boy’ and the loudest of all anthems ‘Cum On Feel The Noise’ from Slade. The Rockier side of Glam is represented by Cozy Powell, Golden Earring’s epic ‘Radar Love’ and Alice Cooper’s ‘Schools Out’ and Side One closes with Mott The Hoople’s timeless David Bowie-written ‘All The Young Dudes’.

A good collection of Australian music from the seventies, although often not the biggest hits of the included artists. It's also not all 'pop'. Quite alot of it is actually rock. The most notable inclusion here is Cheetah's "Walking in the Rain" a cover of the Ronette's 1964 original.

This was Iggy in his truest form, climbing up from the bottom. There was something about the way he screamed "I got a right" that let you know, he certainly did and he worked it for all it was worth. Maybe not the best production of it's time but still the most honest…

If Day at the Races was a sleek, streamlined album, its 1977 successor, News of the World, was its polar opposite, an explosion of styles that didn't seem to hold to any particular center. It's front-loaded with two of Queen's biggest anthems – the stomping, stadium-filling chant "We Will Rock You" and its triumphant companion, "We Are the Champions" – which are quickly followed by the ferocious "Sheer Heart Attack," a frenzied rocker that hits harder than anything on the album that shares its name (a remarkable achievement in itself). Three songs, three quick shifts in mood, but that's hardly the end of it.

In late December 2015 a new David Bowie box set was announced that would be focused on his rise to rock stardom in the early 70’s. With the dawning of the new year, news that the music world feared came true, that Bowie had been seriously ill for years and had passed away. Like when most celebrities pass away, interest and demand for their output rises and it took me a bit of work to secure a copy of this box, in anticipation of its arrival I used the time to pour back over David’s back catalog of this era, from The Man Who Sold The World through Aladdin Sane as well as the few official live records, the brilliant Santa Monica 72 show, the Ziggy soundtrack, and the David Live were all in steady rotation.
