In the liner notes to this premiere recording of his completion, Levin says: "The completed version offered in this recording, however, seeks to respect the 200-year-old history of the Requiem . We have tried not to revise as much, but as little as possible and in a manner we fee it faithful to the character, writing, voice leading, design and structure of Mozart's music."

The long-anticipated premiere of Wolfgang Rihm's Requiem-Strophen (Requiem Verses) in March of 2017 was also a special debut: Mariss Jansons, principal conductor of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted his orchestra for the first time at the musica viva concert series. The live recording of this concert is being released as a co-production with BR Klassik, musica viva and NEOS.

Joseph Balthasar Hochreither (1669-1731) from a family of Salzburg court musicians, was appointed briefly as organist at the Benedictine convent in Nonnberg before taking up his position for life in Lambach in 1694 where he remained until 1721. Almost all of his 21 works to have survived were composed during this period, with the exception of the festival mass on this recording dating from the year 1731. Hochreither was appointed as cathedral chapter organist in Salzburg in 1721. He died on 14 December 1731 in the city of his birth and was buried in the St Peter cemetery.
