Alessandro Scarlatti (1660 -1725) was the prolific composer of more than 800 cantatas. However, the majority of these compositions are unpublished and preserved in manuscript copy only. In this context, Maestro Estevan Velardi and Alessandro Stradella Consort will give life and exposure to two of Alessandro Scarlatti's repertoire gems: the Serenatas "Al fragor di lieta tromba" and "Bel piacere ch'e la caccia", First World recorded in this release on period instruments. The regime of Queen Elizabeth I dealt harshly with supporters of the old Catholic religion. Torn between obedience and conscience, some of England’s most talented musicians - Philips, Dering and Dowland - chose a life of exile abroad. Others chose to remain in spiritual isolation in England, comparing themselves to the exiled Israelites in Babylon. After six years in the making - this is my new album. My partner Pete Glenister and I made this record mostly at his place in London and except for the overdubbed horns, he played every instrument on those songs. We did some recording at Charlton Pettus’ house in Los Angeles during some sessions there when Pete came over to write and the last two tracks were produced by Chris Bruce at Pete Min’s studio in LA. But other than that, you could say we made this album at home. The last few steps of recording, mastering and manufacturing the album were made possible because of supporters of a PledgeMusic campaign that ended in June, 2017. There are a few physical copies left which you can purchase in the store.

Toronto-based duo Blue Standard, made up of pianist Jesse Whiteley and vocalist Raoul Bhaneja, are a pleasant pair. Their approach to jazz standards, as displayed in their debut album A Good Thing, goes straight down the middle, appealing to those who would seek a rather unadorned take on the classic tunes of Chet Baker, Joe Williams, Jimmy Scott, and others. This is a simple album of songs played directly with no overdubs, and not a single song stretching out longer than four minutes. In that regard, both the vocals and piano are amiable, workmanlike, and brief. It’s the exact opposite of adventurous, but there’s a time and a place for everything and their quaint quality is a simple good time.
