Aes Dana

Aes Dana is the main moniker for Vincent Villuis, a French composer, sound designer, Dj and co-owner of Ultimae records as well as one of the founding members of Asura. Bass player and singer in several coldwave and industrial bands as a teenager, Vincent then moved on to composing with machines and specialised in sampling and layering of acoustic sounds digitally transmuted. His music is a fusion of Deep Ambient, Downtempo, IDM, infused with hints of Neo-Classsical Electronica, Industrial and Liquid Drum 'n' Bass.
As Aes Dana, he produced solo albums, an audio samples library, participated to about 3 dozen compilations while collaborating on three albums with Swedish artist Magnus Birgersson under moniker H.U.V.A. Network…

Aes Dana is releasing his 8th solo album on the Ultimae imprint; glowing addition to the composer’s discography, Inks is at once a synthesis of everything that his music has been leading up to and an original step forwards in terms of expressiveness and contrast. A self-taught electronic music composer, bass guitar and samplist, Vincent Villuis has quickly become one of the most recognizeable names in the broad-reaching “downtempo” field. With Inks, he delivers a sublime narrative album, fusion of Ambient, IDM, Deep Techno and Drum’n’Bass. The finely-woven tapestries of his inspiring music are as much a dazzling exercise in rhythm chiseling, melody and texture as a pure, intuitive and intimate perspective of life’s intrigues.

When Swedish artist Solar Fields (Magnus Birgersson) meets French artist Aes Dana (Vincent Villuis)… the outcome is H.U.V.A. Network, a downtempo project where North and South regions mix and jumble together in a fluid manner. The pair of sound architects explore ambient-electronica landscapes and their multiple layouts. Their works are thought out and composed in two studios: Studio Jupiter (Göteborg, Sweden) and Ultimae Studio (Lyon, France). Musical works and ideas are conceived in these two creation poles via a few travels and a high speed internet network connection, thus breaking "Distances" (2004) which separate the two composers…

Swiss deejay Cyril Miserez dj mizoo takes you on a vibrant journey through vast downtempo ambient soundscapes with solid incursions in the deep trance and techno fields. Featuring engaging tracks from the deejay himself, Ultimae’s AES Dana, Scann-Tec, I Awake feat. Hybrid Leisureland, Cell, Miktek and new comers to the label’s realms such as Mystic Crok, Om aka Ovnimoon, Ascendant and Claudio PRC.

Ultimae is proud to announce the release of the Ligand Remixes by Martin Nonstatic, an immersive puzzle - complex and distractive - shaped by various talented artists : Erot (Denmark), Floating Machine (Portugal), Roel Funcken (Netherlands), Scann-Tec (Russia), Miktek (Greece), Aes Dana (France) and Martin himself (Austria). The 7 tracks explore the emotive IDM and Dubby Tech fields with some incursions in cloudy Electronica. Every artist involved in this restructuring musical project endeavored to create brand new tracks - real tribute to the initial ones - with re-dreamt audio architectures and feelings.

Second chapter of this series of compilations, Oxycanta - Winter Blooms gathers crispy atmospheric electronica, deep floating techno and downtempo ambient. A bunch of delicate soundtales evoking extremes, evanescence and strength, minimalistic to multi-layered. In 1751, Italian composer Francesco Severo Geminiani wrote 'The Intention of Music is not only to please the ear, but to express Feelings, captivate the Imagination, affect the Mind and command the Passions.' Through this collection of music, Mahiane, aka Sunbeam, co-manager of Ultimae, Dj and composer, softly takes the listener to such sonic realms as favourable to inner and environmental exploration. Ultimae proudly presents Gneiss, a first solo EP on the label for Danish composer Tore Kofod Hyldahl aka Erot after his participation on Martin Nonstatic's Granite Remixes and releases on labels such as Iboga Records, LSD-Liquid Sound Design and Fallen Metropolis. The emotive and abstract musical tale invites the listener to escape perception, understanding and apprehend the vast of music, of nature, time and space. Grounded yet floating freely, the chiselled rhythms and evanescent pads create the cradle of contrasts in which one can let himself be lulled and carried away on a deep and delicate journey. Erot welcomes aboard space ambient and downtempo initiates Henrik Laugesen and Vincent Villuis, respectively known as Lauge and Aes Dana to fuel the experience with extra cinematic atmospheres and beats.

Since his first release on Ultimae's Fahrenheit Project compilation in 2001, French electronic music artist Alexandre Scheffer has been making quite a name for himself under his alias Cell with many compilation features, a first album with Indica and several live digital recordings. "Hanging Masses" is an elegant and stylish album in which the various components flow together smoothly as part of carefully crafted compositions. Cell infuses his music with warm melodic bass lines, overlapping pads and gentles pulses creating a sense of perpetual motion. The album is made of 8 long tracks and features a collaboration with Vincent Villuis aka Aes Dana on 'Switch Off'. Created with a wide array of composition tools, from the old analog synthesizers to the state of the art of new technologies, "Hanging Masses" delivers rich and ample soundscapes and constitutes in the artist's heart a homage to Brian Eno, Tangerine Dream, Steve Reich.
