Remastered in 24-bit from the original master tapes. Part of our Keepnews Collection, which spotlights classic albums originally produced by the legendary Orrin Keepnews. Art Blakey's legendary Jazz Messengers recorded for numerous labels large and small during the 35 years of its existence. Few periods in the band's storied history were as inspired as its 1962-63 stint at Riverside, when the Messengers were a sextet with the incredible Freddie Hubbard/Curtis Fuller/Wayne Shorter front line and Cedar Walton/Reggie Workman/Blakey rhythm section.

Each album is packaged in a card wallet, in a nice facsimile vinyl format. If you want a history of Jazz, this is a bargain. Classic albums included are Miles Davis' Kind Of Blue, Dave Brubeck's Time Out, Billie Holiday's Lady In Satin, Nina Simone's Sings The Blues, Erroll Garner's Concert By The Sea, Charlie Parker's Bird and many more!
A soul survivor in every sense of the term, this alto saxophonist is one of the few remaining jazz artists who made a major impact on the jazz community via an extensive run with producer Alfred Lion and the Blue Note label (Horace Silver being another Blue Note legend that comes to mind). From his first recordings for the label with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, it was clear that Lou Donaldson put melody and sound at a premium, coming up with an amalgam that combined the creamy smoothness of Johnny Hodges with the quicksilver bop inflections of Charlie Parker.
Limited two-disc edition (HQCD + standard CD) for comparing sound. The collection includes Miles Davis, Art Blakey, Chet Baker, Duke Ellington, Sonny Clark, Art Pepper and others…
