The genre of one-handed piano music is large: there are many more pieces for the left hand than the right hand, but this music is often reserved for and used when one sustains an injury. It is not the typical repertoire that a pianist might study, and again is often used only when a pianist injures themselves. While male composers tend to dominate this field, a sabbatical of 2012 allowed Wiley to research her new interest: that of finding WOMEN composers of left handed/one-handed piano music. She found well over 100 such composers, researched and documented each one, and ultimately this led to two major articles on this topic that were published in the American Music Teacher Magazine.
