Don McLean released his debut album, Tapestry, at the dawn of the 1970s when the hangover haze of the 1960s still lingered strongly in the air. McLean specialized in that netherworld between '60s coffeehouse folk and '70s introspection, navigating the distance between confessional singer/songwriter and MOR pop. He'd never abandon this aesthetic, crafting a handsome, modest body of work over the course of nearly five decades, but he'd always be known for "American Pie," his fluke 1971 chart-topper. A long, winding elegy for rock & roll, "American Pie" spent four weeks on the Billboard charts but that smash success was eclipsed by its enduring afterlife in the culture, where it served as the fodder for nostalgia and parodies for decades, eventually earning entry into the National Recording Registry in 2017. So strong was the allure of "American Pie" that it suggested McLean only had one charting hit, which isn't true: its follow-up, "Vincent," peaked at 12, and throughout the '70s he was a mainstay on Billboard's adult contemporary charts, culminating in his final crossover hit in the form of a 1980 cover of Roy Orbison's "Crying." McLean faded from the charts not long after that, but he'd keep touring and recording all the way into the 2010s, relying as much on affection for his entire catalog as he did on "American Pie."

In a handful of improvised albums circumnavigating the troubled waters of the contemporary Mediterranean - Greece, with the eponymous Oiseaux-Tempête (2013), Turkey and Sicily for ÜTOPIYA? (2015), Lebanon with AL-'AN! (2017) - the collective OISEAUX-TEMPÊTE has stretched its electric arc over musical genres and borders, imposing itself in a river of tours and releases like a wild UFO within the hexagonal indie scene. Navigating instinct, as attracted by disorder, the music of OISEAUX TEMPÊTE has always increased tenfold in live performance. It is little surprise that following the remixes album (Re-Works, 2014) and collection of Bsides (Unworks & Rarities, 2016), OISEAUX TEMPÊTE unveils, by way of a new opus, an album entirely recorded in concert. TARAB (in literary arabic - euphoria, secular exaltation, ecstasy) is the result of live recordings captured during the AL-'AN! tour which led the group, after a preliminary residency at l'Autre Canal in Nancy, to cross Europe and into Canada, performing at the prestigious festival Le Guess Who? in Utrecht, opening for Suuns & Jerusalem In My Heart in Montreal and Toronto, following the same Jerusalem In My Heart through France then from Brussels to Berlin, and finally closing the loop at the Irtijal festival in Beirut.

The songs are faster live. Most weren't all that slow in the first place. If Franz Ferdinand couldn't play, this might be a liability, but the Scottish quartet has got the chops. And Alex Kapranos sure can sing. (Plus, he always looks genuinely happy to be on stage.) That said, the format of this double-disc set takes a little getting used to in that it's more of a greatest hits package than a traditional concert release. Granted, two full shows are included–plus "Tour de Franz," an amusing look at the band on the road–but the first section is a patchwork of songs recorded throughout Europe and the States.

François Dumont is a French classical pianist.Dumont is notable for winning fifth prize in the sixteenth International Chopin Piano Competition. He has also won First Prize in the Jean Françaix International Competition in 2007 and First Prize in the Steinway International Piano Competition in 2002, and is also a laureate of the Perlemuter, Clara Haskil, Hamamatsu and Piano Campus piano competitions. He obtained the Grand Piano Prize of Spedidam in 2005 and the "Declic" Prize from the French Government.
