Sing Out! features a stellar line-up of acoustic performances by Bay Area folk heroes, including Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead, Country Joe McDonald, Kate Wolf, Rosalie Sorrels, and a percussion set by the Dead’s drummers – billed as the Rhythm Devils. The event was described by Wavy Gravy as a “mini-Woodstock,” and it is the last major show to be mixed and recorded by famed Grateful Dead soundman Owsley Stanley, aka “Bear.” It is also the final live recording he made of any members of the Grateful Dead.

While the three other Con Funk Shun reissues from Cherry Red's Robinsongs division paired two albums, this one is a two-disc set that combines three of them: Touch (1980), Con Funk Shun 7 (1981), and To the Max (1982). For whatever reason, Spirit of Love (also 1980), the source of "Got to Be Enough," was left out of the series. These weren't among the band's best releases, though they did spawn hit singles like "Too Tight" and "Bad Lady," and the tremendous album cut "Love's Train." In addition to providing the albums in their entirety, there is a handful of bonus tracks, including the 12" versions of "Lady's Wild," "Body Lovers," and "Ms. Got the Body."

Following on from the success of Vienna, Ultravox cemented their position as a New Romantic phenomenon with their follow-up, 1981's Rage in Eden. The martial beats and political undertones of "The Thin Wall" single acted as a potent taster for the album, to be joined in the U.K. Top 20 by the even more powerful message of "The Voice." The latter song opened the album, but nothing that followed equaled its strength, its sequencing a flaw in an otherwise excellent set. That said, propulsive numbers like "We Stand Alone" and "I Remember (Death in the Afternoon)," the rebellious angst of "Accent on Youth," the exotic strains of "Stranger Within," and the haunting "Your Name Has Slipped My Mind Again" all contained their own power. And even if the instrumental "The Ascent" harkened back to "Vienna," it was obvious that with Eden, Ultravox was climbing to grand new heights.

Perhaps realizing that Down on the Farm wasn't the proper swan song for Little Feat, the group persuaded Warner Brothers to release a compilation of rarities and overlooked tracks as a swan song and farewell to fans. Filled with live performances, obscurities, album tracks, and a new song apiece from Bill Payne and Paul Barrere, Hoy Hoy is a bit scattered, a bit incoherent, a little bewildering, and wholly delightful – a perfect summation of a group filled with quirks, character, and funk, traits which were as much a blessing as they were a curse. Hoy Hoy is one of those rare albums that may be designed for diehards – who else really needs radio performances, early recordings from before the band was signed, and outtakes, especially if they're surrounded by early album tracks? – but still is a great introduction for novices. That doesn't mean it's as good as such masterpieces as Sailin' Shoes, Dixie Chicken, or Waiting for Columbus, but it does capture the group's careening, freewheeling spirit, humor, and musical versatility, arguably better than any single album.
