Birmingham, Alabama, 1963. Le corps sans vie d'une fillette noire est retrouvé. La police s'en préoccupe de loin. Mais voilà que d'autres petites filles noires disparaissent…
This Percy Faith two-fer combining the albums Great Folk Themes and American Serenade works well on one disc, providing pleasant, easy listening versions of folk and country themes. This is an interesting combination of albums that investigate traditional folk themes, including "Home on the Range," "Sloop John B.," and "Michael Row the Boat," with tunes written by Bob Dylan, Hoyt Axton, and Duke Ellington. These LPs were originally released on Columbia Records and had been out of print until Collectables reissued them in 2002.
Fahey recorded two versions of this album, one in 1963, the other in 1967; this deluxe reissue gives you both! This was his second album, and the first to get any kind of distribution (the re-record benefits from better fidelity); with compositions like When the Springtime Comes Again; Some Summer Day , and the epic America , it's essential.
Arguably John Coltrane's finest all-around album, this recording has brilliant versions of "Afro Blue" and "I Want to Talk About You"; the second half of the latter features Coltrane on unaccompanied tenor tearing into the piece but never losing sight of the fact that it is a beautiful ballad. The remainder of this album ("Alabama," "The Promise," and "Your Lady") is almost at the same high level.
John Coltrane will have his recordings from 1963 collected in one 3CD set due for release as 1963: New Directions on Impulse! Records on 16 November, 2018.
