By the mid-70s, Joe Gibbs and Errol Thompson had formed a formidable partnership, which had spawned a multitude of major reggae best-sellers featuring the cream of Jamaica’s musical talents. But while the Mighty Two’s vocal productions have rightly earned widespread praise, the high standard of their dub mixes from the era have received considerably less attention. This 2CD collection addresses this oversight by bringing together 48 of their finest dub works from the reggae sub-genre‘s heyday: 1975 to 1978.

Terry Gibbs Plays Jewish Melodies In Jazztime is a 1963 album by vibraphonist Terry Gibbs. The album has a theme which goes through different world musics, all done with a constant string of jazz. The album features Sol Sage on drums & marimba; Herman Wright on bass; Ray Musiker on clarinet; Sam Kutcher on trombone; Alan Logan on piano; and Bobby Pike on drums, but it is notable for featuring Alice McLeod on piano, who would later marry saxophonist John Coltrane. Originally released on Mercury, this CD was released in 2002 by Verve Music Group.

On stage he behaves like a exuberant fan of his own band, cheering his accompanists on, punctuating arrangements and solos with non-verbal interjections. That same spirit is in abundance on "92 Years Young", a collection of songs recorded live in Gibbs' living room, each track done in a single take.

This unique double album is the product of the fertile mind of veteran American jazz drummer Gerry Gibbs. The first disc is a tribute to Weather Report, but rather than merely offer lukewarm cover versions, Gibbs reimagines the Weather Report material from the perspective of an acoustic piano-led trio. Gibbs cranks up the creative juices on the second disc, a set of originals ranging from flamenco to pulse-quickening funk, calypso, gospel, Latin jazz, R&B and plenty of all-out swing. "Weather or Not" is the most audacious and fully-realized project from Gibbs to date, an early crowning achievement from a restless spirit and a triumphant, indefatigable artist.

Georgia Gibbs was an American popular singer and vocal entertainer rooted in jazz. Already singing publicly in her early teens, Gibbs first achieved acclaim (and notoriety) in the mid-1950s interpreting songs originating with the black rhythm and blues community and later as a featured vocalist on a long list of radio and television variety and comedy programs. Her key attribute was tremendous versatility and an uncommon stylistic range from melancholy ballad to uptempo swinging jazz and rock and roll.
