Under the title I vanni occulti, ensemble Al Ayre Español, led by maestro Eduardo López Banzo, offers us its personal vision of Handel’s Sonatas Op. 2. The phrase comes from the oratorio Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno (The Triumph of Time and Disillusion, 1707). The reference to this aria is not anecdotal, because Sonata No. 1 in this Op. 2 contains references to this music — an aspect that, hardly surprisingly, constitutes a characteristic element of the composition technique of the maestro from Halle.

Tenor sax battles have been an indelible part of jazz, as witnessed by the legendary Coleman Hawkins/Lester Young battles, the classic Dexter Gordon/Wardell Gray albums, and the Rollins/Coltrane "Tenor Madness". Add this 1971 skirmish between James Moody and Al Cohn to the list. A mainstay in Gillespie's big band and quintet, Moody worked with many of the music’s greats. His solo on I'm in the Mood for Love is a jazz classic. Cohn is recognized for his part in Woody Herman’s famous Four Brothers tenor sax section, as well as his quintet with fellow tenor great Zoot Sims.

The greatness of Al Green Explores Your Mind comes from a collective effort, including James Mitchell's dreamlike string arrangements and the always skilled backing vocals of Rhodes, Chalmers & Rhodes. But the biggest draw here is Green's phrasing and intimate vocals, making the record an extremely strong effort.

Friday Night in San Francisco is a 1981 live album by Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucía. It was described by jazz author and critic Walter Kolosky as "a musical event that could be compared to the Benny Goodman Band's performance at Carnegie Hall in 1938 … [it] may be considered the most influential of all live acoustic guitar albums".

American soul music veteran singer Al Wilson had his first big hit in 1968 with "The Snake" and remained strong on the charts throughout the late 1960's and into the early 70's. Today he is best known for his 1973 platinum selling album "Show And Tell," which was considered a certified soul masterpiece. Al's endearing style captured fans on both sides of the Atlantic and he continued to make great soul music throughout the decade. Presented here is the original 1979 hit album "Count The Days," featuring fan favorites "Earthquake," "You Got It" and other soul gems.

Interesting stuff! We've got to admit, we don't know if this material was legitimately recorded and/or released against Al's wishes – but the album's a nice one, perhaps some of the best soul material you'll ever find by Jarreau! The record features Al covering Bill Withers tunes from the early days, and it's got a very similar feel to Withers' best work on Sussex – from which it draws heavily, on songs like "Kissing My Love", "Grandma's Hands", "Use Me", "Lonely Town, Lonely Street", "Lean On Me", "Ain't No Sunshine", "You", and "The Same Love That Made Me Laugh". In fact, the arrangements almost seem to be the same as those on the Withers' recordings – with the real difference being Jarreau's vocals, slightly smoother, and a bit more on the jazzy tip.

Rafael Anton Irisarri’s works from Room40 have always dwelled in a place of pressure. His low fre-quency excursions have charted out a unique voyage into a territory in which texture and density are equally matched to create a visceral, but ultimately comforting zone of entanglement. At the same time as completing his Solastalgia edition, Irisarri recorded Agitas Al Sol. Like its sibling work, this album is an enveloping sonic drift that traces across the unsteady topographies of the anthro-pocene. It moves in deep exhales, drawing from within and pressing outward into a sound vista that is effortlessly deep.

The soundtrack from "Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie", a Dreamworks adaptation of Dav Pilkey’s bestselling children’s book series, mirrors the bright humour and irreverence of the film’s underpants-toting superhero. “Weird Al” Yankovic’s theme song sets the cheeky mood of the soundtrack, which also features a new track from Cold War Kids’s Nathan Willet and Lil Yachty’s cover of Yello’s Oh Yeah.
