Conductor Andrew Koehler comments that Steven Holochwost's compositional language is almost always informed through conversations with the past and though he does not shy away from sonorous climax, his music tends toward a mode of expression that favors the quiet and reflective. Holochwost studied composition at Yale and Rutgers, earning his doctorate under the tutelage of Charles Wuorinen. Holochwost has received grants, awards, and fellowships from Rutgers, Princeton, the National Association of Composers, the Fisher Foundation, and ASCAP.

"L'homme armé" is a musical journey into the music of the Court of Burgundy in the 15th century. Under the direction of Andrew McAnerney, the Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal offers a program of motets by the first Franco-Flemish polyphonists - Guillaume Dufay, Antoine Busnois, Josquin des Prés and Gilles Binchois (whose motet A solis ortus cardineis is recorded for the first time). Sung a cappella or accompanied by sackbuts, this music reflects the subtle art of vocal counterpoint.Praised for its “rich-textured, vibrant sound” and “hypnotic beauty”, the Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal (SMAM) has established a reputation as Canada’s finest early music vocal ensemble. Founded in 1974 by Christopher Jackson, Réjean Poirier and Hélène Dugal, the Studio’s mission is to perform sacred and secular early music, with a particular focus on choral works composed before 1750. Acclaimed for his early music interpretations, Andrew McAnerney has directed the Studio de musique anciennede Montréal since 2015. A former member of the Tallis Scholars, Andrew’s career has included music making in over 20 countries with many of the world’s foremost early music ensembles.

Following acclaimed performances at the Edinburgh Festival and then in Melbourne, Sir Andrew Davis’s recording of Massenet’s opera Thaïs features an outstanding cast, and exceptional performances from his Toronto forces. Written shortly after the premiere of his masterpiece Werther, Thaïs was composed for the Californian soprano Sybil Sanderson who gave the premiere at the Paris Opéra In 1894. Sanderson's performance was a triumph, but the opera itself had a mixed reception. After Massenet revised it in 1898 it went on to worldwide success in the years leading up to World War I and has enjoyed continuous and growing success in our own time.
