The complete organ Masses of the Grand master of French Baroque, Francois Couperin. Couperin was a keyboard virtuoso, both on the harpsichord and organ; he wrote these Masses as principal organist of the St. Gervais Church in Paris. The ornamental French style of Couperin is blended with Italian influences with the emphasis on fluent melodic lines and daring chromaticisms in harmony. New recording, by international prize winning organist Adriano Falcioni (who already recorded the organ works of Cesar Franck, BC 94349) and the female vocal group Armoniosoincanto.

No, Georges Bizet was not only the composer of Carmen, the French opera most frequently performed around the world. In a career spanning less than twenty years, he produced works in every genre: orchestral music, piano pieces, cantatas, operas, songs and more besides. He showed an early mastery of orchestration, and was soon able to give free rein to his taste for orientalism and folklore. This portrait offers a chance to discover works that were never performed during his lifetime, indeed some which had to wait until 2024 for their premiere. Of particular note is the 'ode-symphony' Vasco de Gama, which illustrates the Romantic taste for vast historical epics, and Le Retour de Virginie, a cantata for the Prix de Rome presented by the composer to his teacher in 1855. Piano music and melodies remind us that Bizet was also a sought-after salon composer, whose talent posterity has consecrated in songs like La Coccinelle and Les Adieux de l'hotesse arabe.

Four hand music (not 4 hand piano): music written by two composers that both came from different musical backgrounds and culture
G.I. Gurdjieff - Twenty years later, in 1912, Gurdjieff returned to Europe, where he presented a new teaching: a non-religious path toward the inner evolution of man. Various generations of disciples gathered around his doctrine and his beliefs found strong echo in the work of Rene Daumal, P.D. Ouspensky, Alexander de Salzmann, Frank Lloyd Wright, Pierre Shaeffer, Peter Brook and T. De Hartmann himself.
T. De Hartmann - In 1912 he wrote the short essay "Anarchy in Music" which later appeared in the volume Der Blaue Reiter, by Kandisnky himself and Franz Marc. It proved to be one of the major manifestos of XXth century art. Keen on understanding the various bonds that connect different forms of artistic expression, De Hartmann was gifted in his research by an extremely free and unconventional spirit. Back in St. Petersburg, in 1916 he met Gurdjieff, who was to have a great influence in his life.

A fascinating new project by German cellist Anja Lechner and Greek pianist Vassilis Tsabropoulos, Chants, Hymns and Dances, could be subtitled “Music from the Crossroads of the World”. It is a project that blurs the dividing lines between East and West, between composition and arrangement and improvisation, and between contemporary and traditional music. At the centre of the repertoire are compositions by Tsabropoulos, which take as their inspirational starting point ancient Byzantine hymns, and music by the Armenian-born philosopher-composer Georges Ivanovitch Gurdjieff (c.1877-1949) which draws upon melodies and rhythms, both sacred and secular, of the Caucasus, the Middle East and Central Asia.
