Peter Paul Rubens (1577–1640) is an artistic giant and already a star during his lifetime. From Antwerp, he conquered Western Europe with his art in an era marked by religious wars and intolerance. Today, he is often stereotyped as a painter of fat women, but Rubens' repertoire is almost inexhaustible. Rubens paints large, heavy figures in full motion and has an unbridled imagination.
