One of the coolest records ever from guitarist Philip Catherine, and one of the funkiest too – thanks to a really sharp edge that you won't find on some of his other albums, and lots of Fender Rhodes from the legendary Marc Moulin too! Some of Catherine's other records of the 70s were a bit laidback or noodly – but this set's got a strong, soulful drive all the way through – a nice focus that may well come from the production of Sacha Distel, himself a onetime guitarist! But the group's just got things right on the money, right from the start – with some very strong funky drums from Freddy Rotheir, plus trombone from Jiggs Wigham and both bass and flute from Freddy Deronde.

Marc Henric, compositeur : Organiste et pianiste, Marc Henric obtient à Montpellier ses premiers prix de formation musicale et de musique de chambre, puis à Paris, parallèlement à sa licence de musicologie en Sorbonne, reçoit un premier prix de direction de chœur à l’unanimité, le Diplôme National Supérieur de directeur de chœur et d’orchestre et le Diplôme d’État de Direction.

Francis Poulenc is considered one of the greatest melodists of the 20th century but it is his individual and immediately recognisable harmonic language that makes his music so distinctive. Often overlooked in his lifetime and in the years after his death, his sacred music was an expression of his more serious side and, following the death of his close friend, Pierre-Octave Ferroud, a re-awakening of his religious faith. The Sixteens new recording centres round the themes of conflict and atonement, reflecting both Poulencs intense internal struggles and the turbulence of life in France during the mid-20th century.

Known for giving precious few interviews, she is a deeply mysterious figure with a cult following of fans around the world. A strongly visual artist, Farmer has made videos and live performances an integral part of her musical statement and its inclination toward taboo subject matters such as sex and death.

Francis Poulenc was the leading composer of Les Six, the French group devoted to turning music away from Impressionism, formality, and intellectualism. He wrote in a direct and tuneful manner, often juxtaposing the witty and ironic with the sentimental or melancholy. He heavily favored diatonic and modal textures over chromatic writing. His music also shows many elements of pandiatonicism, introduced around 1920 by Stravinsky, whose influence can be heard in some of Poulenc's compositions, such as the religious choral work Gloria. Poulenc is regarded as one of the most important 20th century composers of religious music, and in the realm of the French art song, he is also a major voice of his time.
