Autoimune Epidemic

This book examines the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the United States using the concept of syndemics to contextualize the risk of both well-known, and a few lesser-known, subpopulations that experience disproportionately high rates of HIV and/or AIDS within the United States.

There’s a homelessness epidemic in New York’s shelter system that is made even worse by the Coronavirus crisis. With one epidemic feeding another, there is now more homelessness in New York City than at any time since the Great Depression, and it's disproportionately affecting black and brown people. More than 3000 people live on the street, and at least another 60,000 in shelters, including 21,000 children.

The World Health Organization states that depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide, and predicts that by 2030 the epidemic of depression raging across the world will be the single biggest contributor to the overall burden of disease of all health conditions.
