The fifth studio album from the rising Australian progressive rock band. "Rise radiant" is the CALLIGULA'S HORSE sound pushed to its extremes: at once its most ferocious and its most touching, its most expansive and its most condensed, its most poetic and its most vicious.

Wilco are a band who have shown that in the 21st century, a band can succeed creatively and commercially on their own terms, even without what would be considered a hit single, especially impressive since Wilco often seemed to be doing well despite their presence on a major-label rather than because of it. Which is why What's Your 20? Essential Tracks 1994-2014 is at once a welcome and curious release: it's essentially a greatest-hits album from a band that's never had a hit single, collecting 38 songs that have made some impression on non-commercial radio and become fan favorites during the band's first two decades. At the same time, What's Your 20? is also a fine "Beginner's Guide to Wilco," as the track listing gracefully charts their progress from a scrappy but heartfelt alt-country band that rose from the ashes of Uncle Tupelo to a thoughtful and imaginative pop/rock band with some outstanding players and an eagerness to experiment.
Richard Gere is the aging romantic in love with the youthful Winona Ryder, except that while Gere is approaching the "autumn" of his life, Ryder's already there, suffering from a terminal disease. The heady situation has its grim moments, but the bittersweet mix of despair and euphoria is what much great art has always wrestled with. Here, it is presented sentimentally. The title track, arguably best performed by Lady Day, Billie Holiday, herself no stranger to life's troubles, is given a suitably smoky run-through by Yvonne Washington. Jennifer Page contributes "Beautiful," a lush pop ballad. But most of the soundtrack is handed over to the very capable Gabriel Yared, an Oscar Winner for his soundtrack to The English Patient. The Lebanese-born Yared draws on his own 25-plus years of scoring films to brilliantly build the drama to cathartic heights without sacrificing the quiet moments that match this romance with the season's explosion of color.
Iremember clearly the day I moved into my dorm on the campus of East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, January 1979. I put on my headphones and listened intently to California Autumn. As the record began, the sound that hammered into my brain that day is one of those musical memories I will never forget. I must have listened 40 times over. Recently I listened again on my new Bose headphones to see if it was as utterly awesome as I remembered. It was.
