Beginning their career as the most popular surf band in the nation, the Beach Boys finally emerged by 1966 as America's preeminent pop group, the only act able to challenge (for a brief time) the overarching success of the Beatles with both mainstream listeners and the critical community. From their 1961 debut with the regional hit "Surfin'," the three Wilson brothers – Brian, Dennis, and Carl – plus cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine constructed the most intricate, gorgeous harmonies ever heard from a pop band. With Brian's studio proficiency growing by leaps and bounds during the mid-'60s, the Beach Boys also proved one of the best-produced groups of the '60s, exemplified by their 1966 peak with the Pet Sounds LP and the number one single "Good Vibrations." Though Brian's escalating drug use and obsessive desire to trump the Beatles (by recording the perfect LP statement) eventually led to a nervous breakdown after he heard Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, the group soldiered on long into the '70s and '80s, with Brian only an inconsistent participant.

The Beach Boys “Sail On Sailor“ collection celebrates the landmark 1972 albums “Carl And The Passions” and “Holland.” This 6CD set features a 48-page book with extensive liner notes, rare photos and more. The collection includes remastered versions of the original albums as well as outtakes and session highlights from the original “Mount Vernon and Fairway” EP from “Holland”, plus a previously unreleased concert from Carnegie Hall, 1972. Also included are dozens of studio and live additional tracks, sessions and alternate versions.

In September of 1961 Al Jardine, Brian Wilson, Carl Wilson, Dennis Wilson, and Mike Love stepped up to a microphone together for the fi rst time at the home of Hite and Dorinda Morgan to demo The Beach Boys’ first three songs. Between that September date and March 1962, before signing a seven-year contract with Capitol Records on May 24, 1962, they committed nine songs to tape under the direction of Hite and Dorinda Morgan. Some iconic, others obscure—“Surfin’,” “Luau,” "Lavender,” “Surfin’ Safari,” “Surfer Girl,” “Judy,” “Beach Boy Stomp” (aka “Karate”), “Barbie,” and “What Is A Young Girl Made Of”— Every complete take, false start, master take, and every second of studio banter during these historic recordings is gathered on this landmark collection, Becoming The Beach Boys: The Complete Hite & Dorinda Morgan Sessions. BEACH BOYS NASSAU COLISEUM 1974 - Classic Beach Boys Broadcast Recording Of A Show Hailed As Being Among Their Best Ever By 1974, due in part to the shrewd organisational skills of new-boys Ricky Fataar and Blondie Chaplin alongside those of BB evergreen Mike Love, the success of two Greatest Hits albums and the mega-selling 1973 In Concert album, The Beach Boys were being dubbed one of the best American live acts around, even rivalling the likes of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young for ticket sales. The band s renewed, positive profile was summed up best by Rolling Stone, who named them their Band Of The Year. The Beach Boys performed 100-plus shows across North America in 1974, and on 14th June they packed out the 14,500-capacity Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, NY, performing what is now hailed as one of the group s finest ever shows. The subject of a live FM radio broadcast transmitted across the United States, the group played an extraordinary setlist featuring cuts from across their career, including the best tracks from their more recent albums like Holland, Carl And The Passions and Surf s Up alongside their better known 1960s hits, giving this concert an eclectic edge, a dynamic feel, and a delightful ambience.

The contents of this release will be identical to the worldwide release, except for SHM-CD format and a description with Japanese translation. Features The Beach Boys' rare tracks from sessions recorded during productions of their albums "The Sunflower" and "Surf's Up Sessions" (1969-1971). Includes 108 unreleased tracks. As part of a planned year-long celebration of The Beach Boys’ 60th anniversary, Capitol Records/UMG are to release a newly remastered and massively expanded edition of the group’s greatest hits collection Sounds Of Summer: The Very Best of The Beach Boys.This collection was originally issued in 2003 and contained 30 tracks. The reissue updates both the number of songs and the audio quality with an extra 50 songs, giving a total of 80 tracks across three CDs or six vinyl LPs.
