Brian Eno is a legendary musician, producer, visual artist and activist who first came to international prominence in the early ‘70s as a founding member of the British band Roxy Music, followed by a series of solo albums, collaborations, and production work with artists such as David Bowie, Talking Heads, Devo, U2, Coldplay, his brother Roger Eno, and most recently, fred again. Beatie Wolfe is a Los-Angeles-based, British-American conceptual artist & activist. Named by WIRED as one of the “22 people changing the world,” Wolfe is pioneering new artistic formats that bridge the physical and digital. United by their mutual commitment to art & the environment, the pair team up for Luminal and Lateral. Recorded in London and centered around the concept of “art, and feelings,” both albums feature original music and cover an array of genres/styles: Luminal being a vocal alternative album, and Lateral comprising of a continuous ambient work.

Inspired by her love of Appalachia, Julia Wolfe based her text for Steel Hammer on over 200 versions of the John Henry ballad. Steel Hammer features the alternately haunting and playful vocalizations of Norways renowned Trio Mediaeval, and stretches the standard instrumentation of the Bang on a Can All-Stars with wooden bones, mountain dulcimer, banjo, clapping, clogging and more. Features the original lineup of Norways Trio Mediaeval (Anna Maria Friman, Linn Andrea Fuglseth and Torunn Ostrem Ossum) with the Bang on a Can All-Stars.

The internationally famous quartet always gave it 100% on rousing vocals and equally rousing playing and knew how to pick the 'punters' songs.
These recordings might well be from the 1960s but that only goes to highlight the power and passion in the original sessions.
