Dustin, an amiable guy, is in love with Alexis, a coworker. When she tells him she just wants to be friends, he hires his roommate Tank, a fast-talking, amoral scoundrel who has a side business: men whose women have dumped them hire Tank to take their ex-girlfriends out on the date from Hell, to drive the women back into their old boyfriends' arms. He takes out Alexis who, against her better judgment, decides she needs some randy fun, so Tank is in a quandary: take Alexis up on her offer, or stay true to his friend. More complications ensue as the wedding of Alexis's sister approaches. Tank seeks advice from his father, Dustin pursues Alexis, and questions of self-worth need answers.

François is a middle-aged antique dealer. He has a stylish apartment and a fabulous life, but at a dinner with a group he considers his dearest acquaintances, he is blindsided by the revelation that none of them actually likes him. He's arrogant, self-centered and harsh, and they don't believe he knows the meaning of friendship. His business partner Catherine makes him a bet: if he can produce his best friend, she will let him keep the massive Greek vase he acquired that afternoon on the company tab. If not, it's hers. Having accepted the wager, François naively tears through his address book, trying to shoehorn an increasingly unlikely series of contacts into the all-important role. Moving through Paris, he keeps encountering a trivia-spouting, big-hearted cabbie named Bruno. Bruno's chatty, lowbrow ways grate against François's designer temperament, but he covets the other man's easy way with people. He convinces Bruno to teach him how to make friends and sets about learning the "three S's" - being sociable, smiling and sincere - though they don't come easy. Ultimately, François victory will depend on Bruno's naiveté in playing along, but what's the cost of cheating at friendship?

Enjoying their first moments in a swanky new LA apartment, the happy friends are interrupted when sexy goth neighbor, Angie, welcomes them with an invite to a kinky house party. It's clear that Angie has her eye on the innocent but intrigued Sarah, causing some serious tension between the two friends. Jealous of Angie and put off by the wildness of the kink-scene, Ted abandons the party and attempts to seek comfort in a cute blonde starlet in his acting class while Sarah entertains the idea of experimenting with bisexual Angie. My best friend's birthday by Quentin Tarantino (1987)

Quentin Tarantino's directorial debut, which he took with Craig Hamman (writer, actor) in 1987, at the same time, when he worked in a video archive of Manhattan Beach, California. In 1984, Hamann wrote a short script - the story of a young man who tries to make a pleasant surprise to his friend's birthday, but he was haunted by failure. Tarantino decided to participate in the project, and together they finished the script until the meter, scraped together $ 5000, bought a 16-mm film and the next four years involved in the shootings. Together with the production group took part in the filming of their friends and colleagues from the video store and acting class.
Originally it was 70 minutes, but half part of film disappeared somewhere, and reached us 36 and a half minutes. In this form they have shown at several festivals, and officially this film was never released.
