The groundbreaking album, Beauty and the Beat was released in 1980… Every track is a treasure, a mini teen drama immediately appealing, relatable and memorable… From the very start they were instantly identifiable and maybe a little out of step… They indeed had a unique vision… It wouldn't be long till they would charm the pants off the entire world… They had everything… THE GO-GO'S seemed to be more talented than most of their peers and they were always a few steps ahead… In 1982 claimed the number one spot on the Billboard chart and stayed there for 6 weeks and of course it eventually went double platinum… THE GO-GO'S were the first all female band that wrote their own songs and played their own instruments to achieve that massive distinction… They soon proved to be a blueprint and an undeniable inspiration for like-minded girls and they spearheaded a deluge of hopeful girl bands… Pretty much any successful female artist of the past 40 years will swiftly site THE GO-GO'S as an important influence… Now Sympathy is releasing a tribute album to the girls who conquered a male dominated industry and essentially changed everything successfully rewriting the rule book… This tribute, If You Gotta GO-GO, GO-GO now features 24 bands… Included in the line-up are a few big-hitters and others you'll likely be hearing for the first time… I've been working on this since last year with the rather amazing Travis Ramin and tirelessly he has helped turn it into an impressive reality… This was in fact a daunting task and sadly some artists we would of liked to have recruited were unable to participate… Produced by Travis Ramin and with the Mighty GEZA X at the helm tying it all together we are confident it will be an amazing/heartfelt artifact honoring the brilliantly talented and ever-lovely GO-GO'S.

20 years of the Go! Team’s Thunder Lightning Strike, 20 years of lasers through tracing paper, orange tone oscillations, cable access hangover, music made through sunburnt circuits, a K-tel dream sequence, a haunted vision mixer, station wagon-core, straight to video, VHS in distress, something in the fog, fluff on the needle, chromakey constellations, a hovercraft on the fret board, maxing the minute maid, faxing a car alarm, a Morse code pep talk, etch-a-sketch jackknife, a daily Haley’s comet, light sound colour motion, a holiday from yourself… Double disc CD with a recreation of the original CD-R version of the album which stands up as a document of band leader Ian Parton’s unique method of working. This reissue is a celebration of a record that sounded out of time in 2004, dripping in future nostalgia, and which twenty years on still sounds as unique and uncategorisable as it did when it arrived.

Robert Forster's endearingly fey persona, equal parts Bryan Ferry and gangly bookstore clerk, reaches full flower on the Go-Betweens' fourth album, which tempers the angularity and occasional claustrophobia of the band's previous work with a new airiness and nervous romanticism. The lighter sound can be partly attributed to the growing influence of co-leader Grant McLennan, whose wistful "Cattle and Cane" and "Bachelor Kisses" lent grace to the Go-Betweens' sometimes stilted early records. McLennan's touch is all over Liberty Belle and the Black Diamond Express his "In the Core of a Flame," a love song that manages to be at once tenderhearted and impatient, is a highlight but this is still mostly Forster's show, and as such is a revelation.

G Stands For Go-Betweens Volume Two extensively documents the band’s creative output in the latter half of the Eighties in an ambitious box containing four albums over five LPs, five compact discs and an extensive 112 page book, featuring a trove of archival photos and extensive historical liner notes from founding member Robert Forster, along with additional pieces from guest essayists, fans and contemporaries.

Over their six albums The Go! Team have taken sonic day trips to other lands - musically dipping into other cultures. But now on this, their seventh - they’ve bought a round-the-world ticket…. Benin, Japan, France, India, Texas and Detroit - all stops along the way. Wildly different voices from wildly different cultures side by side but all still sounding unmistakably Go! Team.
