Prior to the release of Beachwood Sparks' 2000 self-titled Sub Pop debut album, the California neo-hippie country-rock outfit had already produced an album's worth of material. Recorded in true DIY style in a small converted one-car garage known as the Space Shed, this would-be debut, titled here as Desert Skies, featured the band's earlier six member line-up. Centered around guitarist/vocalist Chris Gunst, bassist/vocalist Brent Rademaker, and keyboardist/lap steel player Dave Scher, this version of Beachwood Sparks also included guitarist/vocalist Josh Schwartz, keyboardist/lap steel player Dave Scher, drummer Tom Sanford, and percussionist Pete Kinne.

Angst in My Pants is the eleventh studio album by the American rock band Sparks. Angst in My Pants marked the second occasion that Ron Mael and Russell Mael worked with the backing band of guitarist Bob Haag, bassist Leslie Bohem, and drummer David Kendrick. Additionally James Goodwin augmented the line up playing synthesizers, though these were mixed farther back, letting the rest of the band come to the fore. The resulting power pop album was recorded at Musicland Studios, Munich, produced by Mack in association with Giorgio Moroder Enterprises. The recording of the album was the second and last time that Sparks worked with Mack. "Angst In My Pants" and "Eaten by the Monster of Love" were both used in the movie Valley Girl, a romantic comedy released in 1983. "Eaten by the Monster of Love" was also featured in the 2009 horror movie Cabin Fever 2.

Manatee Commune (aka Grant Eadie) has made quite a name for himself in dance music since his debut 3 short years ago. A native of the Pacific NW, this electronic based, classically trained multi-instrumentalist has ignited a wave of fans since his nationally aired interview on NPR’s Morning Edition and being named “best electronic artist” by Seattle Weekly.

Sparks 1974 compiles Sparks’ two 1974 albums Kimono My House and Propaganda alongside a bonus CD containing demos, unreleased and live takes and B Sides. 1974 saw the group relocate from L.A. to London where they recorded some of their most memorable output. Packaged in a deluxe 7” 3CD fold out card set with an illustrated booklet containing a liner note from Guardian critic Jude Rogers.
