Post-Punk | Label: Cherry Red Records

Six CD set from the British post-punk band containing albums, singles, sessions, alternate versions and 22 previously unreleased recordings. Theatre of Hate burned briefly but brightly during the first couple of years of the 1980s, leaving behind the seminal Westworld album, a handful of highly regarded Peel sessions and independent hit singles and a then-unreleased second album, Aria Of The Devil. Omens brings together those classic recordings alongside main man Kirk Brandon's Stone In The Rain album (recorded by Brandon and fellow Theatre Of Hate man Stan Stammers and issued in the US as a Theatre Of Hate album), and Yonjuuichi, a band-curated collection of more recent sessions and versions, bringing the Theatre Of Hate story into the present day.

One of the essential guitarists of the British Invasion, Jeff Beck possessed a mercurial, lyrical style that sounded equally at home in thunderous blues-rock and soft-focus fusion. Beck played both styles in his long, unpredictable career, pioneering psychedelia, heavy metal, and jazz-rock as he did so. His prodigious talent was evident from the moment he joined the Yardbirds, nudging the group toward mind-bending rock on such seminal mid-'60s singles as "Shapes of Things" and "Over Under Sideways Down." Beck left the Yardbirds after spending just over a year in the group, turning his attention to the Jeff Beck Group, a crushingly loud, heavy rock outfit featuring Ron Wood on bass and Rod Stewart on vocals. Truth, their 1968 debut, drew the blueprint Led Zeppelin would soon follow, but Beck never rivaled Jimmy Page's group in terms of popularity.

14 tracks that trace Jeff's entire career, from his precedent-shattering guitar-playing for the Yardbirds, through his solo work with Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart to the tasty jazz-rock fusion of the '70s and '80s! Includes Shapes of Things; Beck's Bolero; Freeway Jam; She's a Woman; Goodbye Pork Pie Hat , and more. Vernon Reid pens the notes! ~~~ Ever restless as a musician and constantly changing directions and trying new things, guitarist Jeff Beck is difficult to reduce to a 14-track overview, although this set probably does as well as one could at sketching in the portrait. Beginning as a guitarist for the Yardbirds in the 1960s, Beck hit his stride with the Jeff Beck Group (which featured a then relatively unknown Rod Stewart as lead singer) later in the decade, and "Shapes of Things" (initially a radio hit for the Yardbirds), "Plynth," and "Beck's Bolero" are represented here from that era. Also here are several of Beck's mid-'70s fusion tracks, including "Freeway Jam" and "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat," as well as his 1980s reunion with Stewart, “People Get Ready.” Again, Beck is a difficult artist to capture in a single-disc drive-by, but for folks curious about this fine guitarist and wanting a quick sampler of his work in several of his various guises, this set works fine as an introduction. ~~~ AllMusic Review by Steve Leggett

Prisoners of War and Local Women in Europe and the United States, 1914-1956: Consorting with the Enemy by Matthias Reiss
English | EPUB | 2022 | 314 Pages | ISBN : 3030838293 | 0.5 MB

This book brings together historians from Great Britain, the United States, Germany, France, Canada, Austria, and Latvia who have worked and published on fraternisation between Prisoners of War and local women during either the First or Second World War, providing the first comparative study of this multi-faceted phenomenon in different belligerent countries. By focusing on prisoners as wartime migrants and studying the nature and impact of their interactions with the local female population, this book expands the existing framework on prisoner of war studies. Its substantial scope and comparative approach make it an important point of reference in the growing research field of POW studies.

The Lived Experience of Hate Crime: Towards a Phenomenological Approach

The Lived Experience of Hate Crime: Towards a Phenomenological Approach by Michael Salter
English | EPUB | 2020 | 288 Pages | ISBN : 303033886X | 0.6 MB

This book approaches the topic of the subjective, lived experience of hate crime from the perspective of Husserlian phenomenology. It provides an experientially well-grounded account of how and what is experienced as a hate crime, and what this reveals about ourselves as the continually reconstituted “subject” of such experiences.
