At this point, DOKKEN simply needs no introduction. The band cemented their status as one of the legendary hard rock/heavy metal archetypes of the ‘80s rock scene with nu-merous successful albums and tours, evergreen songs and music videos and a lore that will live on forever. The tumultuous relationship between band members is well documented and need not be repeated here, but what does need to be made known is that in 2016, the classic original line-up of Don Dokken, George Lynch, Jeff Pilson, and Mick Brown reunited to play the world famous Loud Park Festival in Japan. Fortunately for fans outside of Japan, camer-as were there to capture the performance and now Frontiers is set to issue “Return To The East Live 2016” on CD/DVD, Blu-Ray, Box Set and Vinyl!
A 75-minute symphonic progressive rock, sung in English for the first time in the history of the band, which ranges from baroque sections to other ones more dreamy and atmospheric. Nuova era was one of my favourite bands from the 90s and their 1992 masterpiece "Io e il tempo" I still hold as one of my favourite albums of all time. About 20 years after their last proper album, "Il passo del soldato" from 1995, they release a new album! The titel is in english, as are all the songs. Let me get back to that. The music on the album is like the band never left and continued playing and recording their music, this album could easily have been a follow up a couple of years later after their last album. The sound is almost the same, lots of keyboards dominating the music with additional guitars.
Reissue with the latest remastering and the original cover artwork. Comes with a description written in Japanese. Pianist Hein Van Der Gaag definitely gets right to the point here – starting off the album with a great version of Horace Silver's "Ecaroh" that's filled with these descending note clusters that really open up the tune – setting up this bold, dark mood which is then balanced over the course of some more introspective tunes that follow! The approach is great – that really special way of creating a trio session that the Limetree label had during the 80s – a quality that's maybe made the imprint one of the best on the European scene at the time for piano jazz. Hein's group here features Joep Lumey on bass and Ben Schroeder on drums.
