Kristin Berardi is acknowledged as one of Australia’s finest jazz singers. Twice winner of the Australian Bell Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album, Kristin has toured extensively throughout Australia and internationally – and now presents her new album, recorded with a hand-picked band of homegrown musicians. "Where or When" is a collection of songs that showcase Berardi’s astonishing vocal talents. The intimacy of the band is heightened by the decision to record without drums, anchoring the album’s sound in Sam Anning’s rich bass.

Informed by life as award-winning jazz vocalist Kristin Berardi lives it, Just As You Are captures through song moments in her life -both happening to her and to those around her. From entering the funny intimate world of a complete stranger in a NY laundromat, to riffs with girlfriends on the happiness that is yellow, to pain shared amongst a group of friends, her compositions remind us that every single moment we experience is worthy of our appreciation.

All four members of this ensemble have earned a great many individual accolades for their work in Australian jazz. They are undoubtedly recognized as fine performers in their respective fields. The opening title track, Where or When is a highlight. A brief guitar introduction leads into the head statement with Berardi’s well-modulated voice accompanied by lovely guitar chords in the A section. Anning joins in on bass during the bridge, after which Wilson launches into a saxophone solo on the form. Following a tasteful guitar solo, Berardi comes back to sing it out to the close. It is predictable, but provides pleasant listening. It is also the most up-tempo track on the album.
