Decca Gold will release a soundtrack album for the British drama Mrs. Lowry & Son. The album features the film’s original music composed by Craig Armstrong (Moulin Rouge!, The Great Gatsby, The Incredible Hulk, Love Actually, Romeo + Juliet). Mrs. Lowry & Son is directed by Adrian Noble (The Importance of Being Earnest) and stars Timothy Spall and Vanessa Redgrave. The movie examines the relationship between British painter L.S. Lowry, who was famous for painting scenes of life in the industrial districts of North West England in the mid-20th century and his mother, Elizabeth. The drama is being released in British theaters this coming weekend.

The musical score for The Silence of the Lambs was composed by Howard Shore, who would also go on to collaborate with Demme on Philadelphia. Recorded in Munich during the latter half of the summer of 1990, the score was performed by the Munich Symphony Orchestra. "I tried to write in a way that goes right into the fabric of the movie," explained Shore on his approach. "I tried to make the music just fit in. When you watch the movie you are not aware of the music. You get your feelings from all elements simultaneously, lighting, cinematography, costumes, acting, music. Jonathan Demme was very specific about the music".

His careful touch has made him a sought-after collaborator for some of Hollywood’s leading comedy directors: David Frankel (Prada, Marley), Stiller (Tropic Thunder), John Hamburg (I Love You, Man, Along Came Polly), Mike Judge (Idiocracy) and, most recently, Harold Ramis (Year One). Shapiro, 37, is a rarity in modern film music: a classically trained composer (bachelor’s degree from Brown, master’s from Juilliard) who, despite commissions for classical works (including a well-received piano concerto in 1999), decided he’d rather be working in film.

Lakeshore Records will release a score album for Paul Feig’s thriller A Simple Favor. The album features the film’s original music composed by Theodore Shapiro (The Devil Wears Prada, Marley & Me, Tropic Thunder, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) who previously scored the director’s last two features Ghostbusters and Spy. The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 14, 2018 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A Simple Favor starring Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Linda Cardellini, Jean Smart and Rupert Friend centers around a mommy vlogger who seeks to uncover the truth behind her best friend’s sudden disappearance from their small town. Though John Barry achieved popular recognition for the swinging, loungey, noir-ish soundtracks he composed for the James Bond films, he moved to the front rank of film composers with his score for 1966's BORN FREE. Stylistically, the music of BORN FREE is miles removed from Barry's Bond soundtracks, though the composer's fondness for brass fanfares, stirring strings, and lush, intricate charts with stunning dynamic range is still intact. On the whole, however, the music to BORN FREE has a playful, innocent quality, evoking the nature of the wild animals at the film's center. As the movie is set in Africa, Barry employs a range of African percussion instruments, and sections of flute music (which often seem to echo the sounds of birds or other creatures). The arrangements are expansive and sweeping, giving rise to the sensation of open plains, and Barry's recurring musical themes parallel the film's action (the track titles indicate plot events). The score is, for the most part, surprisingly subdued, with occasional bursts of energy (mirroring tumultuous events onscreen) and its stirring title theme the exceptions. Barry won an Academy Award for the score in 1966.

The original motion picture soundtrack of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus was composed by Mychael Danna and Jeff Danna who had previously worked on Gilliam's Tideland (2005). Gilliam wrote lyrics for the two songs "We Love Violence" and "We Are The Children of the World", the latter of which spoofed Michael Jackson's famous "We Are the World" and was nominated for a 2009 Satellite Award in the category "Best Original Song".
