A Man I’d Rather Be' (Part II) comprises Jansch’s late ’60s and early ’70s output, an under-rated era, no doubt influenced by the now well-established Pentangle sound. Bandmates Danny Thompson (bass) and Terry Cox (drums) regularly feature among the musicians as well as cameo appearances by Mary Hopkin, Toni Visconti and Dave Mattacks.

One of the long-standing collaborations of the British folk revival, Bert Jansch and John Renbourn's Bert and John sees the masterful Pentangle guitarists sparing together through their trademark steel-string guitar styles. Their respective solo careers established them both as leading troubadours of British Isles folk, with little debate and few peers, besides maybe Wizz Jones and Ralph McTell. On this album the duo finds good company in each other's techniques, which are quite indistinguishable in both guitar playing and singing through traditional adaptations, blues, and originals in the Anglo-folk style. The duo plays beautifully together in a candid setting.

Compiled by Bernard Butler and the Bert Jansch estate, Just A Simple Soul is the first comprehensive Best Of collection spanning Bert Jansch’s 5-decade-long career. Presented chronologically, the collection begins by drawing from Bert's prolific 1960s period, during which he released six albums between 1965 and 1969; the 1970s records start off the collection's second disc, running all the way to Bert's final studio album, The Black Swan, in 2006.

German producer, arranger, conductor, band-leader and composer, born October 16, 1923 in Hamburg, Germany, and died June 21, 1980 on Mallorca, Spain. Nick-name: “Fips”. He won a Golden Globe-Award for his composition “Strangers In The Night”. Stars like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Shirley Bassey, Caterina Valente, Engelbert, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr., Duke Ellington and Count Basie were successful with Kaempfert’s compositions…
