Bionomics: Economy As Business Ecosystem

Filling a gap in the current literature, this book addresses the social approach to the design and use of innovative business models in the digital economy. It focuses on three areas that are of increasing importance to businesses and industry today: social issues and sustainability; digitization; and new economic business models, specifically the sharing and circular economies.

Hybrid organizations combine elements of well-established, institutionalized structures and thereby move away from conventional organizational practices. The present research reveals that when hybrid organizations develop their operations, they are faced with challenges that are unique and unexplored and which are often grounded in their hybrid structure. Social business hybrids were chosen as an ideal setting for the study of organizational hybridity based on their unique organizational structure, which is characterized by a mix of commercial for-profit and charity logic.

Perceiving the economy as a complex dynamic system, generates a need for new tools for its study. As a constructive simulation method, Agent-Based Computational Economics (ACE) has in recent years proven its strength and extensive applicability. Fields of study are widely spread within economics, with a cluster around financial markets. This book is based on communications given at AE’2006 (Aalborg, Denmark) – the second symposium on Artificial Economics, and covers both wellknown questions of economics, like the existence of market efficiency, as well as new questions raised by the new tools, for example questions related to networks of social interaction.

Gathering together powerful voices of feminist writers, peace activists, and matriarchal studies scholars from around the globe, The Legacy of Mothers reconceptualizes mothers, motherhood, and mothering as an alternative human logic to create a new sociopolitical order. The contributors draw on ancient knowledges, Indigenous perspectives, and African traditions like Motherism to argue for the reordering of our world according to a distinctly transformative feminism. The book then explores where this new logic is already taking root, demonstrating that a better world is not just possible but already evolving.
