AVID Jazz here presents four classic Chris Connor albums plus including original LP liner notes on a finely re-mastered and low priced double CD. “Lullaby Of Birdland”; “Chris”; “This Is Chris”; “Chris Connor” and side one of “He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not”. A series of firsts greet our first selection of our tribute to legendary jazz vocalist Chris Connor, “Sings Lullaby of Birdland”. Her first job singing with a trio, her first recording contract and her first LP record! The trio in question comprises Ellis Larkins on piano, Everett Barksdale (from Art Tatum’s band) on guitar and Beverly Peer on bass. Her second album “Chris” features tracks from her first date for Bethlehem which were arranged and conducted by Sy Oliver. For her third album “This Is Chris” her reputation was beginning to grow as can be seen in her fine company of musicians. Chris is joined by Ralph Sharon on piano, Milt Hinton on bass, Osie Johnson on drums, Joe Puma on guitar, Herbie Mann on flute and Kai Wiinding and JJ Johnson on trombones.

Deep Purple have never quite been placed in the revered 1960s canon that includes the Who, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, or any of the other British rock bands who continue to reunite in various configurations to tour and even periodically release new albums, but given that the group has always been a riveting and brilliant live act, part prog, part heavy metal, part funky R&B, and imminently theatrical, that second-tier designation seems like both an oversight and a shame. Returning with this set, the band's first since 2005's Rapture of the Deep, and featuring a near-classic lineup of vocalist Ian Gillan, guitarist Steve Morse, bassist Roger Glover, drummer Ian Paice, and keyboardist Don Airey (Jon Lord, whose distorted organ parts were so much a part of the classic Deep Purple sound, left the band in 2002 and died in 2012 of pancreatic cancer), one can only marvel at how timeless it sounds, as if it were actually recorded in the early '70s and not tracked a little more than a decade into the 21st century…

Created in 1992 in Antwerp, Belguim, the group of four consisted of two brothers, Buni Lenski (violin) and Simon Lenski (cello) and Han Stubbe (clarinet) and Roel van Camp (accordion). They garnered much attention and enthusiasm around them in their many live shows and even grabbed the attention of dEUS and even played on a track in their second album, Suds & Soda. Their name (Die Anarchistische Abendunterhaltung) comes from the novel "Der Steppenwolf" by Herman Hesse. Having come out of the conservatory, they went on to create their music: their music is almost entirely instrumental (depending on the album), classical instruments are their "weapons" of choice and thus their music could be described as neo-classical, with eastern folk influences, some klezmer touches, jazz and with each album they venture with different experiments…
