In 2004, Saifer Entertainment and V.I.K. Recordings released a stunning DVD of the band's 2000 appearance at an outdoor stadium in Winnipeg entitled "The Guess Who - Running Back Through Canada" and it is a winner from beginning to end. The group is remarkably tight both musically and vocally and roar through an amazing set of their popular tunes and lesser-known gems. Fueled with high octane, the band kicks off the set with "Runnin' Back To Saskatoon," a rollicking number that was never recorded in the studio but did appear on their "Live at the Paramount" album back in 1972. It's followed up by their 1970 hit, the crowd-pleasing rocker, "Rain Dance."

Surely the greatest endorsement for any songwriter is the calibre of artists who record their compositions. Sam Dees can boast cuts on acts such as the Temptations, Johnnie Taylor, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Millie Jackson, Jackie Wilson and other upper echelon soul stars. Having previously issued two CDs of Sam’s recordings, we felt he was overdue for an entry in our Songwriter series. The aptly titled “One In A Million” is exactly that.

One of the best jazz singers of her generation, Dee Dee Bridgewater had to move to France to find herself. She performed in Michigan during the '60s and toured the Soviet Union in 1969 with the University of Illinois Big Band. She sang with the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis orchestra (1972-1974) and appeared in the Broadway musical The Wiz (1974-1976). Due to erratic records and a lack of direction, Bridgewater was largely overlooked in the jazz world by the time she moved to France in the '80s. She appeared in the show Lady Day and at European jazz festivals, and eventually formed her own backup group.
