There are few composers who have vanished from music history to the extent of Johann Abraham Schmierer. We know very little about this composer’s origins, education, career and life journey. Some listeners, during or after hearing this recording, may well wonder why this music – despite its undeniable qualities and relatively early publication (already in 1902 in the tenth volume of Denkmäler Deutscher Tonkunst) – has not been recorded earlier. One reason is surely the fragmentary character of the collection, for six suites are obviously missing.

Essays by some notable members of the audience, including Steve Vai and Peter Asher, are also included.
The name of gambist and conductor Jordi Savall's new Alia Vox Diversa label may seem puzzling, inasmuch as it's hard to imagine anything more diverse that the existing Alia Vox catalogue, covering music that spans half the globe. The unifying factor seems to be that Savall himself is not present; the leader of the Euskal Barrokensemble here is multi-instrumentalist Enrike Solinís, a member of Savall's Hesperion XXI. The music is for the most part not "Baroque" but covers a wide range of music associated with the Euskel Antiqva, the Basque legacy.

Official reissue of Bill Nelson’s classic & long deleted six cd boxed set originally released in 2002. Eestores the original boxed set artwork & book. Esoteric Recordings’ imprint Cocteau Discs are very pleased to announce the re-release of one of the most sought after titles in BILL NELSON’s extensive solo catalogue, the boxed set "NOISE CANDY”. Originally released in 2002 on the Tone Swoon imprint, the set was available for a matter of months before the distributors ceased to exist. "NOISE CANDY” was a fascinating project that gathered together a host of recordings made by Bill at his various home studios between 1990 and 2000. Featuring 121 tracks, the set comprised 6 CDs of songs and instrumental music, each CD an album in their own right and entitled variously "Old Man Future Blows the Blues”, "Stargazing With Ranger Bill”, "Sunflower Dairy Product”, "King Frankenstein”, "Console” and "Playtime”.
BGO's 2015 release groups Charley Pride's second four albums onto two CDs: 1968's Songs of Pride…Charley, That Is; In Person and The Sensational Charley Pride, both from 1969; and 1970's Just Plain Charley. By this point, Pride established himself as a star and so RCA was willing to take some chances. Songs of Pride doesn't rely on well-known tunes but rather contains a bunch of new songs, largely written by Jerry Foster and Bill Rice, songs that helped align Charley closer to the modern sound of country in 1968, while In Person demonstrates his in-concert charm and skill. Sensational and Just Plain Charley pick up on Songs of Pride and they're both excellent examples of walking the line between modern sounds – the Bakersfield of Merle Haggard and the proto-outlaw of Kris Kristofferson – and the Music City machine, records that are enough of their time to evoke their era but classic enough to transcend it. This is Charley's peak in many ways and it's a pleasure to have them so easily available on this set.
