Montage is a good name for an L.A. Four recording, because the group (Bud Shank on flute and alto, guitarist Laurindo Almeida, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Jeff Hamilton) consistently mixed together different elements to gain its own sound. Included on this date are classical themes by Claude Debussy and Heitor Villa-Lobos, three group originals (including Shank's "Madame Butterball"), "Teach Me Tonight" (taken as a samba), and cooking renditions of "My Romance" and "Squatty Roo." A fine example of the L.A. Four's unique yet very accessible music. - All Music Guide

Fusion, Jazz-Funk | Country: USA | Label: Decision Records, Tappan Zee Records - DEC-CD-1103

A Bob James compilation such as this was long overdue. Rhodes Scholar collects 22 tracks he recorded for CTI and Tappan Zee, ranging from One in 1974 to One on One in 1979. The music is arranged chronologically for the most part, with derivations made for musical continuity. As much as his music, however, is the manner in which this comp showcases his development of the Fender Rhodes piano's sound as jazz-funk began to emerge in the mainstream. Disc one commences with the nocturnal, break-driven groove of "Nautilus" (the sampling favorite was originally the last track on One).

2003 ABKCO Records DSD

In August 2002, ABKCO Records reissued Beggars Banquet as a newly remastered LP and SACD/CD hybrid disk. This release corrected an important flaw in the original album by restoring each song to its proper, slightly faster speed. Due to an error in the mastering, Beggars Banquet was heard for over thirty years at a slower speed than it was recorded. This had the effect of altering not only the tempo of each song, but the song's key as well. These differences were subtle but important, and the remastered version is about 30 seconds shorter than the original release. Wikipedia.

French Original Fontana Records

This is the classic 1969 album that Serge and Jane Birkin cut together, and every track is a groovy French classic of the sort that made Serge a legend! The arrangments are amazing, and feature some of the weirdest instrumentation ever heard on a pop record – especially one that was as successful as this. The tracks are insane, and even though the lyrics are in French, you'll be able to get more than enough of them from the sexy interpretation! Highlights include "Je t'aime… moi non plus", "69 année érotique", "Jane B", "Elisa", "Orang Outan", and "Manon".
Highly recommended!!!

James Leary’s hand picked jazz quartet featuring Eddie Harris on saxophone and vocals, Billy Childs on piano, and Ralph Penland on drums. James, of course, anchors the quartet on string bass. Featuring six standards and two excellent originals, this is a great straight ahead jazz recording.
