Geraldo was one of the major players amongst the dance band fraternity during the nineteen thirties and forties. His approach was always meticulous, suave, polished and personal. He was always immaculately dressed and presented a smooth image to the world. During WWII he and his orchestra emulated that of Glenn Miller, taking to the road to entertain the troops at home and abroad where he established an enormous following and much goodwill. His orchestra was always popular and attracted the best musicians even employing one of Glenn Miller's best arrangers Bill Finegan. His vocalists were always of the highest quality, they included Al Bowlly, Eve Becke, Carole Carr, Cyril Grantham, Dorothy Carless, Len Camber, Archie Lewis, Cavan O'Connor, Birrel O'Malley, and Monte Ray. Geraldo died of a heart attack while on holiday in Vevey, Switzerland on May the 4th 1974, but his music lives on, as this CD testifies.

Bob Seale plays in the Summer of Love with Gabor Szabo! Bob Seale leads his band, Bob Seale and His New Happy Times Orchestra, with guitarist Gabor Szabo as featured soloist on this album. 7 tracks, 4 of which are over 5 minutes long, give plenty of room for not only Gabor, but also Tom Scott's saxophone and Bill Plummer's sitar. Tom Scott's saxophone and Bill Plummer's sitar are also given much play. The arrangements are by Sid Feller. Jazz, rock, psychedelic, and Indian music are all here, spreading the "now music" of the Summer of Love era.

This Skin Deep CD consists of the two 10" LP's Louie Bellson recorded for Norman Granz's Norgran label, the material of which was later released on the 12" LP called Skin Deep. Duke Ellington fans may know of "Skin Deep" from the brilliant studio version on his Ellington Uptown album. When Bellson left Ellington's band, he recorded a version under his own name, a version that is equally as brilliant, and formed a legacy in his own right. Each 10" EP is distinct from the other, one with him as part of a quintet, the other with a big band. This is the Verve Elite Edition released on 27 July, 1999, remastered by Kevin Reeves.

Doris's major impact on the world of musical entertainment began when she started singing with Les Brown and his Band of Renown, in 1940. Les and the orchestra members treated her like a favorite sister, and for 6 years (on and off), she became the most famous (and the best paid) big band singer in the world, between times off to get married. On another of our musical pages for Doris, you can see all the songs by her and Les which hit the Top of the Hit Parade (see Doris's Top 100 Hit Single Records). But this page is devoted to those little known songs by this winning combination. Some were recorded and rarely heard. Some were sung over the radio or in person and taped but never released. It is high time the world had access to these wonderful performances, and they are also important when looking at this fabulous singer historically.

In the early days of Stereo, record companies were always looking for ways to show off the capabilities of this new format. One musical genre that met with great success was instrumental pop, and especially percussive releases…

In 2002 the Transatlantic Radio label fortified their catalog with a 26-track anthology of historic sides by the Jean Goldkette Orchestra. Victor Recordings 1924-1928 neatly samples some of the group's best works by beginning in March 1924, a good nine months before Bix Beiderbecke first sat in, and ending in December 1928, more than a year after Bix had joined the ranks of Paul Whiteman's Orchestra, along with some of Goldkette's most capable players. During the mid-‘20s the Goldkette band played its best music in front of live audiences, using arrangements by Bill Challis. Studio recordings captured some of the magic in the form of sweet and hot dance music punctuated by period pop vocals. Rather than packing in a lot of alternate takes (which may be found on other equally fine collections), the folks at Transatlantic chose to lay out a sensible selection that accurately embodies what the Goldkette band was all about.

The Ellington Suites is the 1976 album by the late American jazz great Duke Ellington. This was a collection of songs done to represent some of the "suites" he had done in his career, including one from 1959 and two from the early 1970's before he died. This edition is the 2001 pressing from Pablo/Fantasy Jazz utilizing the 20bit K2 Super Coding process, remastered by Tamaki Beck.
