This October, Simply Red will release Remixed Vol. 1 (1985-2000) a two-CD collection of their hit singles in remixed form from the band’s first 15 years.
Fortran 5 was an electronic music band active during the 1990s.
The band were made up of members David Baker and Simon Leonard, who had previously worked together on the music project known as I Start Counting. Around 1990, they had begun recording new material, and realised that the new music had a different sound compared to their previous electropop style. They decided to rename their project Fortran 5 in order to give their new dance/techno style a fresh start. The new project also involved the duo collaborating and working with a number of other artists. These included Kris Weston of The Orb, and Rod Slater from Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.
This program with works for baroque violin reveals Bach as the unique composer he was but also as an accomplished and fastidious craftsman, with an acute sense of effective color and an ability to blend stylistically divergent features into a fluent and satisfying whole. The performances by Boris Begelman are characteristically energetic and stylish. The works are played on a violin by Louis Moitessier from the 1790s. Boris Begelman is the concert master of the recently founded orchestra Amici Veneziani. This group was founded by soprano Simone Kermes and combines the best musicians she has worked with during the last five years.
