Composer and recording artist Brad Oberhofer, under his artist moniker Oberhofer has provided an original score for the Netflix docuseries The Andy Warhol Diaries, executive produced by Ryan Murphy and directed by Andrew Rossi. Using AI technology, the six-part documentary features Warhol’s recreated voice to narrate each episode from his own diary. As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, the project had an actor, Bill Irwin, record the lines, then used a text-to-speech algorithm that adopted Warhol’s Pittsburgh accent. The voices were then combined in an attempt to come as close as possible to the artist. This narration, along with footage and interviews with well-known figures, is accompanied by Brad’s original music.

Pianist and composer Brad Mehldau’s Ride into the Sun—a songbook record of music by the late singer, songwriter, and guitarist Elliott Smith—is due August 29, 2025, on Nonesuch Records; it is available to pre-order here. Featured musicians include singer/guitarist Daniel Rossen (Grizzly Bear); singer/mandolinist Chris Thile (Punch Brothers, Nickel Creek); bassists Felix Moseholm (Brad Mehldau Trio, Samara Joy) and John Davis (who also engineered and mixed the album); drummer Matt Chamberlain (Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, Randy Newman); and a chamber orchestra led by Dan Coleman, who also conducted on Mehldau’s 2010 album Highway Rider. Two album tracks, “Tomorrow Tomorrow” and “Better Be Quiet Now,” are available today; in-the-studio videos of the musicians recording both songs, directed by Matthew Edginton, can be seen below.

In the most enigmatic project up to this point in his career, Brad Mehldau explores conflicting aesthetics, sometimes in tracks positioned next to each other, and occasionally within the confines of a single performance.

He never snubbed the music of his time, quite the contrary, and often shed the clothes of a worthy heir to Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett that he was put on in his early days.

The existence of I Still Play as an album is a bit of a paradox. Each of these 11 tributes to [former Nonesuch president] Bob Hurwitz was written for an audience of one, on a particular Steinway in a specific Upper West Side living room. And yet here they are, making their way into the wider world.
