First Snow of The Year is the project of Belgium-based artist Erik Sevenans, who adopted this moniker in 2017 following his relocation to Munich, Germany. Whilst grappling with a foreign language and adjusting to his new environment, Erik found himself in the midst of an exceptionally cold winter that year. During this period of adaptation, he embarked on the creation of an album, delving into the exploration of ambient textures, a departure from his usual musical terrain. The album, born out of this experimental phase, coincided with the first snowfall of the year, thus being the reason for the project's distinctive name. Originally conceived as Erik's personal soundtrack for his daily subway commute while engrossed in Murakami novels, the project took on a life of its own.

Bertelle Dache's 'Not Just Tomorrow, But Always', a riposte to the Shirelles' smash 'Will You Love Me Tomorrow', is among the sought-after highlights of the set. Others include Gerri Granger's sinewy 'Just Tell Him Jane Said Hello' in the wake of Elvis' 'Just Tell Her Jim Said Hello', Tracey Dey's 'Jerry (I'm Your Sherry)', which features a couple of the 4 Seasons on background vocals and Jody Miller's Grammy award winning 'Queen of the House', which became a smash to rival 'King of the Road'. Even wackier than the original is 'They Took You Away - I'm Glad, I'm Glad' by Josephine, a timely 'answer' to They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!' by Napoleon XIV. Many of the titles on this extremely potent and novel compilation appear on CD for the first time and all are sourced from the best master tapes. It is the only comprehensive answer song compilation on the market and we have given it our best attention.

This album is John's tribute to one of his blues heroes, the late, great Freddie King. King was a blues guitar pioneer from the mid-50's through to his tragically early death in the mid-70's and he influenced everyone from Peter Green to Dave Edmunds to Stevie Ray Vaughan and probably most of all Eric Clapton, who produced and played on King's final album. In The Palace Of The King features John Mayall's take on his personal selection of Freddie King favorites and is a fabulous combination of two true blues legends.
