Glenn Prangnell’s Trouserphonic Records label is home to Groovy Uncle and Suzi Chunk and has done an excellent job keeping the flag flying for the beat and R&B sounds of the Sixties. This release, the first on the label that doesn’t feature Prangnell or Chunk, makes it clear from the off with the band's name that record producer Jim Riley has taken a slightly different route with his debut for the label.

Taking their name from the Anthony Burgess novel A Clockwork Orange, the U.K. techno-pop trio Heaven 17 grew out of the experimental dance project the British Electric Foundation, itself an offshoot of the electro-pop outfit Human League. The core of Heaven 17 was originally comprised of Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, a pair of onetime computer operators who first teamed in 1977 as the Dead Daughters, a duo that integrated synthesizer patterns with a heavy reliance on tape loops. Soon, Ware and Marsh were joined by Philip Oakey and Adi Newton and changed their name to the Human League, where they remained before exiting together in 1980.

Black Asteroid is the solo guise of Bryan Black, best known as one-half of industrial techno duo MOTOR. While MOTOR's work is vocal-based and more overtly influenced by the aggressive EBM sound of Nitzer Ebb and D.A.F., Black Asteroid focuses on the dancefloor, with distorted, driving techno beats and few, if any, vocals. Originally from Minneapolis, Black worked at Paisley Park Studios as a sound designer for Prince and was a member of '90s industrial groups H3llb3nt and Haloblack. He started MOTOR with former bandmate Olivier Grasset, and the duo released a string of successful albums on NovaMute, Shitkatapult, and Dim Mak, in addition to touring with Depeche Mode in 2009.
