A lost treasure from pianist Horace Tapscott - material recorded live at the legendary Lighthouse club in 1979, done with a very hip group of players from the Nimbus Records scene! The tracks are quite long throughout - and often start with Tapscott musing into the groove with solo piano, soon joined by group members who include Reggie Bullen on trumpet, Gary Bias on alto sax, Roberto Miranda and David Bryant on bass, and George Goldsmith on drums. Tapscott's piano has plenty of sharp edges throughout, but these introductory moments also show his more contemplative side as well - making the long tracks a wonderfully rich portrait of his musical talents.

The Nearest Faraway Place Vol. 1 (2008). Voices from unknown lands, the call of endless space and the pulse of our time are interlaced in the music of Gert Emmens. It is cosmic and at the same time it is very earthy. And his music is a very powerful. It infects the listener with its vivid energy. This album brings feelings of freshness and simultaneously recalls the best samples of classical electronic music. It has a strong melodical basis around which the composer draws up his improvisations. One hour and eleven minutes run very insensibly with the colorful music of Gert Emmens. His album "Nearest Faraway Place Volume 1" is undoubtedly not just an addition to the artist’s rich discography but also to the collection of any ambient/electronic music lover. It is a creative perception of our contradictory and rapidly changing world…

Hip-O Select's 2009 triple-disc set Forever: The Complete Motown Albums, Vol. 1 rounds up all the LPs the Marvelettes released between 1961 and 1963 – 1961's Please Mr. Postman, The Marvelettes Sing, and Playboy both released in 1962, 1963's The Marvelous Marvelettes, and On Stage: Recorded Live – plus the stereo version of 1966's Greatest Hits and a bunch of mono singles and rarities. The Vol. 1 in the set signals that the Marvelettes had a second run at Motown later in the decade, highlighted by the this "The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game" and "My Baby Must Be a Magician," but this has everything from the band's prime period, running from 1961 to 1965, the time when they rivaled the Supremes as the greatest girl group Motown had to offer.

When Bruce Dickinson launched his solo career with 1990's Tattooed Millionaire, it was clear that not everything he did on his own would resemble his work with Iron Maiden. Some of the British headbanger's solo output has been very forceful and Maiden-like, but some of it is has been lighthearted, glossy pop-metal that wouldn't be out of place on an album by Bon Jovi, Winger, or Def Leppard. Assembled in 2001, this excellent, well-rounded collection reflects Dickinson's diversity as a solo artist…

Of all of Bruce Dickinson's solo albums, Accident of Birth sounds the most similar to Iron Maiden, which isn't surprising since former Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith co-wrote many of the songs and plays on the record. The album is better than many latter-day Maiden efforts, and though the songwriting is occasionally uneven, the best moments (including "Man of Sorrows") make it an intriguing album.

Despite leaving Iron Maiden for a spell in the '90s, Bruce Dickinson's solo efforts were not that dramatically different than his albums with Maiden. In fact, quite a few tracks could have fit on such albums as Fear of the Dark with no problem. Thus, it shouldn't come as a surprise that two live sets from Dickinson's '90s solo era sound as if he's fronting Iron Maiden. In 2005, these concert sets, 1995's Alive in Studio A/Alive at the Marquee and 1999's Scream for Me Brazil, were compiled together as a three-disc set, Alive…
