Butcher Brown is something increasingly rare - a real band, playing for their audience and for each other. Dedicated to innovation, informed by a love of the past, their sound is a modernist fusion, fizzing with explosive energy, rich in jazz licks and astonishing with raw musicality. Gearbox Records is proud to present this, their first ever multi format global release. It’s a hometown gig (Richmond, Virginia) from July of this year. The electrifying energy reminds us how vital a live album should be.

The 17-track album includes several featured guests: Pink Siifu, Braxton Cook, Jay Prince, Nappy Nina, Keyon Harrold, Michael Millions, Charlie Hunter and more. A long and profound relationship between two radical improvisors has transformed into a multiverse of sound in three pieces.

Comprised of tracks recorded in Münich and Oslo, this is the debut of this collaboration between improviser and doyen of the double bass Barre Phillips, British saxophonist John Butcher and Norwegian drummer, percussionist and improviser, Ståle Liavik Solberg.

The Beatrice Inn's presence in New York City spans close to a century, and its history is ever changing, from one of New York's first speakeasies, frequented by Fitzgerald and Hemingway, to a beloved neighborhood Italian restaurant to one of the city's most notorious night clubs. Angie Mar purchased the Beatrice Inn in 2016 and led the storied landmark into its next chapter. Mar transformed the space and the menu into a stunning subterranean den where guests are meant to throw caution to the wind and engage in their most primal of senses. Pete Wells, in his rave two-star New York Times review, summed it up best: "It is a place to go when you want to celebrate your life as an animal."
