Powell had appeared on at least 66 albums, with contributions on many other recordings. Many rock drummers have cited him as a major influence. Considered to be one of England's best drummers, and very much in demand for rock and pop records, Cozy Powell was almost legendary for a heavy-hitting style that could be made to work with many kinds of rock music, whether for the thundering pop productions helmed by Mickie Most, Black Sabbath, Emerson, Lake & Powell, or even his own solo work (notably "Dance with the Devil," which was a major English hit in 1973.) Powell began his professional music career in 1965 with the Sorcerers, eventually winding up working with Jeff Beck after Beck left the Yardbirds. In 1971, Powell formed Bedlam, but eventually abandoned this project to produce singles such as "Dance with the Devil."

Brilliant technical jazz drummer with phenomenal career, including collaboration with genre's top names and an unlikely rock'n'roll era hit. Lyrical is a word sometimes used to describe Cozy Cole's drumming style because his melodious technique goes far beyond mere beat-keeping. The recordings that appeared under his name in the late '50s and '60s are mostly big-band jazz instrumentals that emphasize the drums. Cole is cited as an influence by many contemporary rock drummers, including Cozy Powell, who took his nickname "Cozy" from Cole.

3CD box set presented with enhanced booklet. Musical visionaries Keith Emerson and Greg Lake planned to re-form ELP in 1984, however drummer Carl Palmer was unavailable. Into the frame stepped the legendary Cozy Powell, best known for his work with Rainbow and Whitesnake. Included is the band's one and only studio release: 'Emerson Lake and Powell' featuring three bonus tracks, their live album 'Live in Concert' and a CD of rehearsals, 'The Sprocket Sessions', only previously released in the 90s as a bootleg. The collection includes sleeve notes by Jerry Ewing, editor of PROG Magazine, who takes a forensic look at the band's short but impactful history. The band's self-titled studio album delivers material familiar in style to ELP with long progressive rock tracks, mellow ballads, and a classical theme ('Mars, the Bringer of War' by Gustav Holst, a piece previously performed by Lake during his tenure in King Crimson). All recordings have been re-mastered by renowned engineer Andy Pearce. This collection has been curated with the blessing of the Emerson, Lake and Powell families. If you are a fan of ELP, you cannot afford to have this part of the Emerson and Lake history missing from your collection.
