Caledonia Cotton Got Me Head Over Heels

The song "Keep on Tryin'" from Head Over Heels kicks off this two-fer of Poco albums (released in 1975 and 1976) and is a reasonable metaphor for the band's continued desire to break into the mainstream and enlarge what had been an appreciative but somewhat minor cult following. The quartet also relocated from the Epic label which had been home since their 1970 debut, to ABC (later MCA). With the business change came a burst of creativity, as the strong voices and songwriting skills of the Tim Schmit-Rusty Young-Paul Cotton creative nucleus dovetailed for a terrific set, shifting to a slightly more pop vein, while remaining firmly ensconced in the country, folk, and even bluegrass roots of their previous output. A cover of the rare Becker/Fagen composition "Dallas" (available only as a single before Steely Dan's full-length debut but not included on it) is an inspired choice. Paul Cotton blossomed as a songwriter with "Let Me Turn Back to You," a warm-up of sorts for "Heart of the Night," the track that three years later would ultimately provide the crossover hit they were searching for.

Montreal duo Chromeo have maintained the same blueprint from the start: '80s-inspired electro-funk brimming over with talkbox riffing, slap bass, neon synths, and catchy melodies to hold it all together. Their 2014 album, White Women, was Chromeo's high-water mark, finding their sound refined to the point where their sleazy retro-funk inspirations met with enough pop-minded songwriting design to push their often niche tunes into mainstream radio hit territory. Fifth album Head Over Heels attempts to re-create the formula that made White Women so beguiling, this time upping the ante with a who's who of special guest performers and producers…

Chromeo announced their long-awaited fifth LP, Head Over Heels, will be released on June 15th via Big Beat/Atlantic Records. It serves as the follow-up 2014’s White Women.

1970s hard rock power trio from Michigan led by guitarist & vocalist Paul Frank. This group from Detroit was formed in late 60s by Paul Frank (guitar, vocals), Michael Urso (bass, vocals) and John Bredeau (drums). After signing to Capitol, they recorded a self-titled debut at Paramount Studios in Hollywood, although a couple of tracks were recorded live at Detroit's Eastown Theatre. The album was issued in June 1971. The music is heavy rock very powerful in the vein of early Grand Funk Railroad, Cactus and of course Led Zeppelin. Despite some positive reviews and various gigs (they opened for Frank Zappa and The Mothers at Fiilmore East in NYC) Head Over Heels didn't last much longer and disbanded circa 1972.
