California experienced a phenomenal growth in independent recording in the postwar years, after decades of dominance by the major labels. Millions had flocked there during the war years and they needed entertainment.
The internationally-heralded, Grammy-nominated production team Galantis is showing no signs of slowing down in 2017. After releasing the brilliant official music video for "Hunter" in June, the duo has now rolled out yet another new track "True Feeling", and announced their much-anticipated second album - "The Aviary" - set for a September 15th release via Big Beat Records. Galantis is the collaborative production duo of Christian Karlsson (aka Bloodshy, onethird of Miike Snow) and Linus Eklöw (aka Style of Eye) who has set a new standard for songwriting in dance music.
This album is more than just a collection of covers of Bjork songs. Different from CDs like the "String Quartet Tributes to" artists like Bjork and Radiohead, this album really stands alone as a funky, brassy, bold, and beautiful big band jazz album. It combines very modern sounds (electric guitar, drums, electric/computerized percussion, etc.) with old-fashioned jazz elements (a killer horn section, great piano solos [particularly on "Cocoon"], the great vocals by Becca Stevens) a quality of Bjork's work that I have always admired, the combination of the modern and the antique.
This new 67-track collection from Now! showcases the very best of the all-American genre that is country music. Included are the likes of Dolly Parton, Leann Rimes, Glen Campbell and more. Eventually, most records from Nashville featured this style of production and the Nashville sound began to incorporate strings and vocal choirs. Most of its songs are built around three chords and a plain melody, but these forms are so basic, they allow for many different styles, from the gritty sounds of honky tonk to the jazzy improvisations of Western Swing. Although it sometimes faded away from view, Western swing remained popular throughout, occasionally experiencing upswings in popularity.
