The voice of Spandau Ballet’s first solo holiday offering! As front man for Spandau Ballet, Tony Hadley led the acclaimed band through the 1980s with 15 Top 10 singles (including the #1 smash “True.”) The band took a 20 year hiatus before reforming in 2009, again hitting the U.K. Top 10 with their reunion album, Once More. Following an acclaimed documentary (directed by Julien Temple) and a successful tour, Hadley stepped out with The Christmas Album, his first holiday offering, showing the same adventurous spirit, while doing what he does best—making every song his own. Including standards like “White Christmas,” “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” and “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,” The Christmas Album moves effortlessly into the ’50s with Chuck Berry’s “Run Run Rudolph,” the ’70s with “I Believe In Father Christmas” (Greg Lake of Emerson Lake & Palmer), The Pogues’ “Fairytale Of New York” from the ’80s, and into the current century with Keane’s “Somewhere Only We Know” as well as originals.
The pop duo phenomenon that spawned such acts as Simon & Garfunkel, Brewer & Shipley, and Seals & Crofts was predated by the duo formed by songwriters, guitarists, and vocalists Benny Gallagher and Graham Lyle. Initially attracting attention as songwriters of Dean Ford & the Gaylords' single "Mr. Heartbreak's Here Instead," Gallagher and Lyle went on to record as a duo and as members of McGuinness Flint and Ronnie Lane's group Slim Chance…
Konchordat hail from Kent in the UK. They are a progressive rock band in the 'English' tradition; their music has been described as "majestic and often epic in scale." On their debut album 'English Ghosts' the music is led by main stays Steve Cork (basses, keyboards), Lee Harding (voice, keyboards) and Stuart Martin (guitars, keyboards, vocals). The album 'English Ghosts' scored 7/10 in a review by Geoff Bartom in Classic Rock Magazine (Feb.2010, issue 141). 'Brothers & Sisters' is the debut album from Tru Thoughts new signing Lakuta. Referencing a fusion of musical styles, Lakuta draw on their funk, soul, electronic and world music backgrounds to unearth a conversation that explores modern and traditional approaches. The ensemble's new tropical album is produced by the respected Nick Faber, whose production identifies with the band's authentic afrobeat sound, switching up the groove to unlock the infectious energy which radiates from Lakuta's live performances.
With a strum of his guitar and an arsenal of quotable lines, Lookman Adekunle Salami brings the spirit of 1970s singer/songwriter folk into his post-modern acoustic blues. Performing as L.A. Salami, he invites influences like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Elliott Smith, and Joni Mitchell to his debut, Dancing with Bad Grammar. A collection of 14 ditties (and one bonus track), Dancing is a mostly low-key affair, with Salami's everyman storytelling strewn over plaintive guitar that simmers like smoke wafting through a bohemian cafe. Beside his iconic influences, listeners will also catch hints of Conor Oberst's wounded delicacy, KT Tunstall's sweetness and soul, Alex Turner's mischievous wit, and Courtney Barnett's droll observations…
Conveying the strong bonds that tie all the artists together, ‘Coalescence’ is a title that directly acknowledges all the different artists contributing and unifying their individual elements, all coming together to form a greater whole. To symbolise the significance of this project, the album has been created in light of various puzzle elements and themes. The Steyoyoke family is exactly like a puzzle, everyone has a place and purpose and something unique to offer. The ‘Coalescence’ album signifies affinity and a merging of their individual talents to bring you a refined collection of ethereal techno and melodic deep house interludes.
Black Ice is a nice image for Dutch pianist Wolfert Brederode’s new trio music, with its gleaming lyricism, transparency, and hint of danger, as well as sleek melodic invention both from the leader and from Icelandic bassist Gulli Gudmundsson. Brederode and Gudmundsson have collaborated often over the last two decades in contexts from free improvisation to theatre music and have a keenly honed intuitive understanding. Jasper van Hulten is a resourceful addition to the team, a tone-sensitive drummer adept at embellishing the sensitive musical language and sense of interplay. The album, recorded at Lugano’s Studio RSI in July 2015 and produced by Manfred Eicher, is issued as the Brederode Trio goes on tour in the Netherlands…
At long last, the legendary unreleased Still Cool album! Producer Carl "Stereo" Fletcher had been planning this LP on his Uprising label since the late 1970's. In fact, it was nearly released in Nigeria (!!!), but due to a faulty tape machine on a trip to Lagos, it never happened. Finally released nearly 40 years later, here it is. Still Cool, like Stereo and his Uprising label, were part of the vibrant musical arm of the 12 Tribes of Israel Rastafarian group in the 1970's. Still Cool regularly performed on 12 Tribes stage shows, just check the photos in our LP & CD jackets. Four of the ten tracks on this album were released as singles back in the day, including one ("Sweeter Music") credited only to Still Cool vocalist Frankie Diamond.
