Giacomo Gotifredo Ferrari studied in Naples before finding esteem in the Parisian musical world of the late 1780s. Fleeing the Revolution he settled in London. His compositions divide equally between vocal and chamber music, but also include two piano concertos. His Four Duets for Piano and Harp reveal clearly the main features of his art: easy melodic grace founded on his studies with Paisiello, high musical quality, formal balance, and a veneration of Haydn and Mozart. Intended for professionals and amateurs alike, slow movements are expressive and rondos full of vigor. In this recording original instruments are used to do full justice to the period timbre of Ferrari’s dialogues between fortepiano and harp.

Throughout his life, Carlo Maria Giulini retained his love of Italian opera, which had brought him fame in his early days at La Scala, and which he had reluctantly abandoned later in the 1960s. Here he presents a collection of the most beautiful overtures from the masterpieces of Verdi and Rossini.

Carlo Maria Giulini Cavaliere di Gran Croce OMRI was an Italian conductor. From the age of five, when he began to play the violin, Giulini's musical education was expanded when he began to study at Italy's foremost conservatory, the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Rome at the age of 16. Initially, he studied the viola and conducting; then, following an audition, he won a place in the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.9 -Unfinished- - Brahms- Variations on a Theme by Haydn, Op. 56a

Nicolò Grimaldi (1673-1732) war einer der gefeiertesten Kastraten der Generation vor Farinelli. The creator of the title roles of Handel's Rinaldo and Amadigi, Nicolò Grimaldi (Naples, 1673 Naples, 1732), known as Nicolini, was the leading castrato of his time, an outstanding artist praised as a fine actor as well as a singer. A generation older than Carlo Broschi (Farinelli),Gaetano Majorano (Caffarelli) and Giovanni Carestini, he possessed exceptional vocal agility and virtuosity, contributing significantly to the establishment of the legend of the castratos virtuosity.
